Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2’s ending

As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

Frankly, I was disapointed when I didn’t die at the ending of game #1. After all, that game does begin with an ominous quote indicating that Hale was never seen again. It is called resistance, fall of man, not resistance, man gets really close to falling. I think there will be a third game, and I hope like hell that Hale stays dead. After that ending, if they pull some Dallas crap or something else to keep Hale alive, it will be a complete slap in the face. Capelli is great, make a 3rd game with him and explain all that galactic sized crap in the background, and what the hell the towers and ships were doing with all those beams.

i was mad that the game was so short i beat it in one day and wat happend in those 2 years when he was in those test if they have a 3 i think it will be about those 2 year when hale was being tested

what i dont get is what was that big scary thing in the sky what i think happend was that when they crased that guy with hale got killed in the crash or got saw the furchur because every thing look differint so i think hale dose trun but he runs off and dose all that and that was the end for number 3 it make sesens

i think the guy with hale is in number 2 because y was he in the game so long they could of killed him but they dident and what happend to every one in the us did they all die or did they live it never told us it is wearid

to jen son. Last i recalled, there were like 8 million people possibly surviving somewhere in baton rouge. I didn’t hear if that zone had been compromised.

I think Capelli is a good candidate for 3. after all. he coulda been killed in that one boss fight while reactivating the tower, but they convieniantly kept him alive saying his regen kicked in just in time.

as for the two years in between, isn’t the coop and intel supposed to cover the plot during that time? unsure cus i havent gotten all the intel or played throught the coop yet.

for all u guys saying there wont be a resistance 3, there will be. 1.we dont know anything about the red planets in the sky. 2. at the end nathan says “this is just the beginning”. of course theres going to be resistance 3. insomniac wouldnt end the series like that.

i think itd be kinda cool if hale did return as a biomechanical kind of super human, how else would they fix his mangled skull? remember when they were in the helicopter and they were talking about all kinds of inhibitors? maybe they were able to regress the effects of the virus. I was kinda guessing that capelli was gonnaturn into a chimeran and i was hoping id finish him off since he was so eager to shoot me
