Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2′s ending

Resistance 3 PS3 fake boxart As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

To be fair hale is dead, if your idea about hale having a “vision” and then killing capelli woundn’t really work.

1) Having the main charictor die but it turn out to be a dream is a show of a pritty weak plot.

2)Hale alredy knows Capelli is going to kill him when he turns because he tells him so.

3)Although capelli could be having a dream about hale turning and killing him, you need to remember that hale’s final words are the same as those said by dadilus (can’t spell it)said when he escaped from his cell when you are woth blake.) Capelli wasn’t there so how would he know what he would say.

I think that nathan will come back as a chimera and once again being helped by capelli and the capelli changes into a chemera as a final boss and that resistince 3 should be called 1.The rise of man 2.The last stand or 3.Final battle I think that rise of man should be it since the humans been losing but with deadlius dead and the 8 million people still left the form together to fight back.

how can nathan come back as a chimera capelli killed him and when people die they die unless his brain was somewhere else in his body or he’s imortal and can come back from the dead which is unlikely but if he dose it would be good if you could to be the clover the chimera’s enemy or be the chimera and humans in campain mode then that would be the best resistance game ever. and what if the clover is small insects. well the clover better be good or the game will spoiled. and if they had mutated one of the kind chimera in number one why couldnt they put them on in number 2

Right, any of you idiots that are saying ‘IF there’s a R3′ or ‘I hope there’s a R3′ go to a mental home. OF COUSE THERES GONNA BE A R3!!! (start following the story in games you idiots) And of course hale survives. He takes daedulas powers and did he die from any bullets? No. And are you all forgetting something? There’s the whole cloven, ancient species thing to be tied in with the story. So stop making these rubbish predictions.

Forget about Hale hes gone. Time for a new plot. I don’t want to take out another chimera boss in the next one with the same fighting to get to him and all that. I want one where i get to shut down those building things and end the chimera forever so Insomniac can make even more great games.

Sorry all u 360 owners but why would Sony make 2 thirds of the trilogy only on PS3 and then randomly put resistance 3 on 360?! There’s no logic in it. Imagine all the 360 owners who never played the resistance game. They would be like wtf is this story all about?! You have to admit defeat 360 owners. :s

Here’s an idea. Hale, by some crazy miracle, lives and you have a split campaign where you play as Hale trying to bring about whatever dark visions he has, and play as Capelli trying to stop him as the other story line. Or leave Hale dead and play as the leader of the Chimera.
