Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2’s ending

As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

Resistance 3 will pick up straight after this one,yes Hale is dead ( his brains are over the floor,its obvious for now), you will play as Cappelli to fight the remaining Chimera, you escape from the crash & you will be tested to limits for example i would like to take on a Levithan with only a bullseye, just to see if it could be done,lots of guns,vehicles but no illness,no powers but i think you will play through the story fighting but i think its either that Hale somehow returns later on so you play as him (Daedelus had taken more that a shot to the head to be dead) & from the looks of the powers at the end of Resistance 2 you gain (blowing everything up with just a force push)& become the elite chimeran or resistance 3 will end with Hale alive. All i would be certain is that it would huge

i think because he has been taking by the disease, he will recovor but they start to turn back to the sentenial’s team whislt being infected.

i want resistance 3 to very difficult with many unexpected twists and a uniqueness that only bioshock has. Fighting a leviathan and a goliath without a rocket laucher, not that swarm shit, something that you have to fight every now and again and when you see it you think f**kin hell not again. being able to use the ravager gun for once would also be nice, also maybe you unlock something if you completed resistance 2 on super human. the weapon ring would be a nice return, weapon upgrades, armour upgrades. maybe if we play as capelli we touch hale at the beginning and gain powers or gradually get them during the game. 3rd race introduced OR 3rd race comes at the end of resistance 3 leaving an opening for resistance 4. human campaign and chimeran campaign would be nice and lots more chimeran animals in the wild

Yes I know Hale’s brain ended up on the floor, BUT they can’t just ditch the man character. They probably will do something like Metal Gear Solid 2 did when they introduced Raiden. You’ll probably play as Capelli then switch back to Hale for a little bit, then back to Capelli. You guys know what i’m saying, kinda? I’m just saying Hale will return somehow (evil or good) but Capelli will definitely be involved.

It’s funny, as I was playing through the game I was almost certain that Capelli was gonna die, he just seemed like that character. And here we are with palns of a third game with Capelli as the main character. Resistance 2 was a great game I’d love to see a thrid installment with Hale. Bring on tons of new Chimera and weapons!

I think that Hale full may regenerate, I mean thats part of the chimeran virus, I mean thats why there were no health packs in R2. But, playing as capelli against both the Chimera and the 3rd race would be awsome. maybe there will be vehicles, like the SRPA tanks in the first mission or a Hijacked stalker
