Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2’s ending

As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

R3 might be placed in the past when the spread started to happen.They would never get rid of hale.he is played in all games.he is the only one u play as in R1 and R3.

well from what I was seen when i was playing, or maby it was just a glitch but werent some of the chimera fightig among each other?,
maby hale might come back and if he doesnt there’s only a handfull of people on the game 1 and 2 worthy enough to replace him.
maby cartwright, capollie, the guy from retribution maby? who knows.

I feel that the third game should take place after the second games ending or it might take place through the 2 years that we skiped over in the first hour of playing in the second game

There is not going to be a 3rd game. The main character is dead and Insomniac is going to work on Ratchet and Clank games now.

ummm nathan got shot in teh FAAAAKING head. Anotherone bites the dust. I think they are going to make a documentry on spidermonkies taking over and eating humans

it would suck if they didnt make a resistance 3. Story was getting interesting and the ending left us hanging with a scary something in the sky. So the fight isnt over. Hale perhaps didnt die, who knows, he’s the main guy so i doubt him being dead. Good surprise ending though. With the game doing very well, and alot of other stuff, Resistance 3 is inevitable.

hale isn’t dead if your remember fighting sheperd he tells u he can see the future and when you beat him you get the power to blow up chimera and the abiltliy to see the future so maybe he let caplie see the future of him killing hale , plus it’s the beginning right hale story isn’t done yet i know he’s not dead
