Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2′s ending

Resistance 3 PS3 fake boxart As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

If you take a look and read through http://www.myresistance.net/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=i1j8kgmgghibgok0pcsn99vre2&topic=83697.0 it depicts some of the underlying ideas of R3. Its co-op intel that points out that there was a race on earth that the chimera were fighting. As you play through campaign the intel suggests that the Chimera are constructing large towers that are connected all over the world putting a field around the earth. Doctor Mikolav believes that the Chimera are doing this to move the earth to a different location in space. That would explain the planet at the end of R2. Also there is a chimera/human prototype called Cloven, which are flesh eating humans that hate chimera and only attack humans when tempted. They have been using grey matter to transform themselves into fighting machines. It tells what R3 will mostly follow. Side note, Hales body has both Hale and Dadelus, he uses “Us” in the beggining of the game when talking to Hale and most likely talking to him at the end. Im positive that Hale did not die though. I honestly read like an hour of the story, useful story for Apacolypse film class

the ONLY way hale is still alive is if him a and dadeulus switched bodies when he died and then somebody touches his dead bodie and they switch sound reallly stupid but that has to be the only way i think that it could happpen
and well i just dont see hale alive or a spirt as someone says they guy says like 10 lines i dont think he gonna guide you around dead he not that kinda guy also maybe that body thing maybe hale has to touch it maybe regenerates his bodie because dadeulus is that powerful but thats the only way and its seems kinda reasonable execpt that those ships were kinda leavin or going to the purple light thing

Probably a Chimera will find Hale and place him in one of those tubes what they put humans in to make other Chimera’s, and you’ll play as a Chimera in the Resistance 3. Or, you turn in to a Chimera, but you play as the person who shoots you in the end and on the last mission you verse Hale.

i think that hale’s spirit follows capelli around telling him how to fight the chimera. then in the end capelli fights the king chimera and hale apears behind the body when it exploads and says its over and capelli goes hale in a strange voice and he disapears

i read on a site that it will be tha you will play as cappelli and Hale isnt actually dead since his chimera healing abilities made him go into a coma and then breaks out of the coma and tries to finish what daeldus started (hes still evil) and cappelli and the remainging SRPA team are going to fight the chimera and kill all of them

if you read the intel some of them can take out goliaths with their bare hands, how cool would that be

oh and bring the hellstorm back and dont waste my time with all this wrath rubish
