Gears of War 3 and The Movie talk with Cliff Bleszinski

A new interview with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War 2 (known by many as “Cliffy B.) has him discussing some very interesting things, primarily the likelihood of a Gears of War 3 releasing for the current-gen Xbox 360 platform, and a discussion about the upcoming Gears of War movie that is currently in development.

REGARDING GEARS OF WAR 3:

Question from Chris Stead: Does the Xbox 360 have enough left in it for a Gears of War 3, or will you be hoping that the next-generation of consoles rocks up in time for its release?
Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: Well we’ve never said anything about any sort of sequels, so it is all guess work and hearsay now about what anybody will come up with. But in terms of what the Xbox 360 is capable of… anytime you are doing console development you cannot count on anybody popping in a new video card or adding new memory or anything like that – we are working with that box. But I have a feeling that if we were to do a future product, which might be a possibility, our programmers will have a way to work their mojo and make something that really feels like a leap.

REGARDING THE GEARS OF WAR MOVIE:

Question from Chris Stead: The Gears of War movie will certainly help that exposure: you’re involved we believe. How are you going to buck the videogame-to-movie trend and not suck?

Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: I’m involved as the executive producer. It’s all about getting the right people attached. We take the material very seriously. People tend to have a short memory in general, I find, and people forget just how many bad superhero movies there were before Hollywood started consistently nailing the formula. They sunk Batman for a long time thanks to Schumacher and everything.

Gears of War 2 will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 7th, 2008.

Update July 2009: In a more recent interview Gears series creator Cliff Bleszinski said: “If you look at Gears of War 2 we actually tried to get away from it a little bit by doing things like letting the colours breathe and come through a little bit more. Stylistically though, I’d love to play in a different field in the near future in regards to what your typical expectation of a Gears of War game actually is.” Sounds like Gears of War 3 will have a different graphical style.

wow to base the game off the movie would be the dumbest concept ever… games based on movies are never good there arent many that come to mind to argue this… plus gears 2 was a let down and whoever doesnt think that is not a true gears fan.. gow 2 showed that little no skilled cock suckers could beat pros with the simple hold on the b button…

also the likely hood its gonna do good is low since only fans of the games will watch it and not many ppl who dont play games will know wtf is going on… but since im a devoted fan im gonna buy the next game and watch the film… cliffy b if u let me down again expect someone kicking u in the balls in the distant future

Ok fair enough, Gears 1 was’ent as good as 2, but that’s not too say that Gears 3 and Gears the Movie will be bad, nor the game based on the movie of the game, Gears the Movie the game, Gears 2 had WAY to much atention put into make it look fancy, and no where enough atention put into gameplay nor combat. Wereas Gears 3 could have this patched up by having more weapons and enemys, the movie could be great because the game was good and the fact Microsoft have enough money to get some decent actors and the Movie of the game would probally be a solid game because unlike Gears 2, it sticks to something, and does it well. That’s my theory anyhow. JQ
