Gears of War 3 and The Movie talk with Cliff Bleszinski

A new interview with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War 2 (known by many as “Cliffy B.) has him discussing some very interesting things, primarily the likelihood of a Gears of War 3 releasing for the current-gen Xbox 360 platform, and a discussion about the upcoming Gears of War movie that is currently in development.

REGARDING GEARS OF WAR 3:

Question from Chris Stead: Does the Xbox 360 have enough left in it for a Gears of War 3, or will you be hoping that the next-generation of consoles rocks up in time for its release?
Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: Well we’ve never said anything about any sort of sequels, so it is all guess work and hearsay now about what anybody will come up with. But in terms of what the Xbox 360 is capable of… anytime you are doing console development you cannot count on anybody popping in a new video card or adding new memory or anything like that – we are working with that box. But I have a feeling that if we were to do a future product, which might be a possibility, our programmers will have a way to work their mojo and make something that really feels like a leap.

REGARDING THE GEARS OF WAR MOVIE:

Question from Chris Stead: The Gears of War movie will certainly help that exposure: you’re involved we believe. How are you going to buck the videogame-to-movie trend and not suck?

Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: I’m involved as the executive producer. It’s all about getting the right people attached. We take the material very seriously. People tend to have a short memory in general, I find, and people forget just how many bad superhero movies there were before Hollywood started consistently nailing the formula. They sunk Batman for a long time thanks to Schumacher and everything.

Gears of War 2 will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 7th, 2008.

Update July 2009: In a more recent interview Gears series creator Cliff Bleszinski said: “If you look at Gears of War 2 we actually tried to get away from it a little bit by doing things like letting the colours breathe and come through a little bit more. Stylistically though, I’d love to play in a different field in the near future in regards to what your typical expectation of a Gears of War game actually is.” Sounds like Gears of War 3 will have a different graphical style.

Xbox fans and PS3 fans..stop the hate. Gears is a popular Franchise. I have both systems cuz I can afford it!! and if Gears3 came out on both, Then we console war would End. No more exclusives. Maybe then we all would get along. So Cliff if you see this, you could be the Obama of video games. Unite us by making the next Gears multiplatform!!!

from looking how bungie is pushing back the halo movie to 2012 make the gow movie animated like the new star wars serious on cartoon network i am 16 i may be young but seeing bungie pushing back there movie so much i think animated might be the way to go.

i think that you should make a gears 3 because we dont kno forsure if skorge dies you just see him fall and you should make it where you choose the guns you start out with but still be able to switch like a box full of guns that you can switch at any time or an ammo drop. you should also keep it for the x box 360 because then it wouldnt be fair to the other people that cant aford to get another game system like make it for a new system and the x box 360.

Holy lord! It’s way to early for a new Gears of War, I was just saying it was way to early for GTA 5, and now Gears of War 3?! I recon that it should be another 3 years until Gears 3 comes out, I recon that it should launch the 720, same with GTA 5. I think that if companies want to releace games every year, they should be spins offs, not full blown sequels. JQ

there should be a gow3 and it should be largely based on adam fenix. gow2 had a lot of things about dom and maria, now it’s marcus’ time to shine.

Guns guns guns. Guns make the game, in all honesty. Take Army of Two for instance.. (Not all that entertaining, nor difficult) However, it being cram packed with weapon selection made the game extremely intresting. So, please make a note of this when building the next video game miracle Gears of War 3.

First off I have to say that the Gears of War games are the best I have ever played. I have never been sucked into a game as much as I have with the Gears games. It just has a perfect storyline that I can’t get enough of. Just keep them coming!! I own an Xbox 360 as do many other people and I can’t afford a new Xbox at the moment so keep the next game on the 360. As for the movie I can’t wait. Just please dont make it animated! I hate animated movies.

Gears 3 would be nothing short of amazing! I agree with frankie, we dont know if skorge dies or what happens the queen. Also adam fenix needs to be shown in more detail. It should also be made for the 360!

i cannot wait until gears of war 3 comes out the best game i have ever seen is all the gears of war games and im dyin to see adam fenix so guys make sure hes in alot of the game thanks

i really hope that a gow3 comes out i have only been a part of the gears family for a short time and i have completly devoted my xbox gaming life to it and if a 3rd one comes out it would be the best game ever. . .just make it longer gears 1 was too short in my opinion and gears 2 was longer but still too short. . .make gears 3 twice as long as gears 2 and i know alot of people that would be happy with that.
