Gears of War 3 and The Movie talk with Cliff Bleszinski

A new interview with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War 2 (known by many as “Cliffy B.) has him discussing some very interesting things, primarily the likelihood of a Gears of War 3 releasing for the current-gen Xbox 360 platform, and a discussion about the upcoming Gears of War movie that is currently in development.

REGARDING GEARS OF WAR 3:

Question from Chris Stead: Does the Xbox 360 have enough left in it for a Gears of War 3, or will you be hoping that the next-generation of consoles rocks up in time for its release?
Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: Well we’ve never said anything about any sort of sequels, so it is all guess work and hearsay now about what anybody will come up with. But in terms of what the Xbox 360 is capable of… anytime you are doing console development you cannot count on anybody popping in a new video card or adding new memory or anything like that – we are working with that box. But I have a feeling that if we were to do a future product, which might be a possibility, our programmers will have a way to work their mojo and make something that really feels like a leap.

REGARDING THE GEARS OF WAR MOVIE:

Question from Chris Stead: The Gears of War movie will certainly help that exposure: you’re involved we believe. How are you going to buck the videogame-to-movie trend and not suck?

Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: I’m involved as the executive producer. It’s all about getting the right people attached. We take the material very seriously. People tend to have a short memory in general, I find, and people forget just how many bad superhero movies there were before Hollywood started consistently nailing the formula. They sunk Batman for a long time thanks to Schumacher and everything.

Gears of War 2 will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 7th, 2008.

Update July 2009: In a more recent interview Gears series creator Cliff Bleszinski said: “If you look at Gears of War 2 we actually tried to get away from it a little bit by doing things like letting the colours breathe and come through a little bit more. Stylistically though, I’d love to play in a different field in the near future in regards to what your typical expectation of a Gears of War game actually is.” Sounds like Gears of War 3 will have a different graphical style.

can u guys mix the war of halo with gear of war? !! making everything .. u can make something there. that for some reason the story in to it , making bigges allies with does two soldiers (the guy from halo and captain fenix). well thats it !

Hey i love gears of war 1 and 2 it is the best game ever and people if u dont like it dont post comments casue no one cares, anyway make gears of war 3 it will be the most popular game on xbox 360 and u would get so much $$ money. if u do create a movie dont make it R18+ make is MA because halo made theres R18 and no one will watch it think wisely.it would be good if heaps of people were everywhere on gears of war 3 like the game is there last chance to end the locust for good.!

wow, it seems everyone posting comments on this is a child. the grammar and context are aweful.

gears movie will most likely suck unfortunately, since hollywood just cant seem to nail the movie adaption of games ever….take a look at max payne…it was the absolute worst movie i have ever seen in my entire life…

I own Gears of War 1&2. They are my all-time favorite games. Best games on the planet. Gears of War 3 would instantly set records for most copies sold. The Xbox 360 is a great system, and Gears 3 would be perfect for it. And make sure to keep tons of gore!! Definitely needs an M rating. The movie should be R, and VERY violent and gory. The Gears games are amazing, and I know for a fact millions of people would love to see more come our way. Gears 3 at the least. Keep up the GREAT work!!!

ahh man, i only play the second Gears of War and it is definately better than any other game i played. i think the movie would be great aswell but not better than the actual game. The multiplayer has to kepp going on for the 3rd aswell. which i think will destroy the playstation 3 games. BRAPP!!!

Gears of War 3 is a must. There is too much of the story left untold. Too many new questions were introduced, and only one was answered. (Dom finds Maria) What’s the deal with the lambent Locusts? Why does the Queen look human? Is she really Marcus’ long lost Mom? I’ve read the Aspho Fields novel, whill we see Bernie in Gears 3? And it has to be on the 360. It was started on the 360 and it’s only right it ends there.

And to the PS3 fanboys, Microsoft didn’t steal any Sony exclusives. The Developers were offered way too much money NOT to make the games mulitplatform. Add the fact that the 360, at the time, has double the market share of PS3s, and it’s a no brainer. Furthermore, if the PS3 has so many killer exclusives, why would EPIC make the game for PS3 only to have it get lost in the shuffle. PS3 fanboys have hated on Gears of War since it’s introduction years ago, why would they suddenly buy it if it were on PS3? These are questions you need to be asking instead of guessing because of Blu-Ray.

There should definitely be a Gears of War 3. And there should be a movie. Gears 3 should be the best game of the three. The movie should be the best movie ever. It needs to be for the 360 because I dont want to buy it because I dont have enough money and it woulnd kill me not to play it.

I was thinking that somewhere in the game Ben Carmine sould appear. I know the guys dead but that would be real cool if he could be in there somwhere.

I want to know what happened to Adam Fenix. After the credits in Gears 2 he sends a transmission and so I want to know what happened to him.

Ok, first off jason, why in the world r u saying that the gow movie will suck? The guy who is making it has made big hit movies.Now about gow 3. I think that it should be before they knew about the locust. The Pendulum Wars. And puting it on the Ps3. NO! It is on the 360. And it should stay on it. Oh, and the movie I think is going to be a great hit.
