Gears of War 3 and The Movie talk with Cliff Bleszinski

A new interview with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War 2 (known by many as “Cliffy B.) has him discussing some very interesting things, primarily the likelihood of a Gears of War 3 releasing for the current-gen Xbox 360 platform, and a discussion about the upcoming Gears of War movie that is currently in development.

REGARDING GEARS OF WAR 3:

Question from Chris Stead: Does the Xbox 360 have enough left in it for a Gears of War 3, or will you be hoping that the next-generation of consoles rocks up in time for its release?
Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: Well we’ve never said anything about any sort of sequels, so it is all guess work and hearsay now about what anybody will come up with. But in terms of what the Xbox 360 is capable of… anytime you are doing console development you cannot count on anybody popping in a new video card or adding new memory or anything like that – we are working with that box. But I have a feeling that if we were to do a future product, which might be a possibility, our programmers will have a way to work their mojo and make something that really feels like a leap.

REGARDING THE GEARS OF WAR MOVIE:

Question from Chris Stead: The Gears of War movie will certainly help that exposure: you’re involved we believe. How are you going to buck the videogame-to-movie trend and not suck?

Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: I’m involved as the executive producer. It’s all about getting the right people attached. We take the material very seriously. People tend to have a short memory in general, I find, and people forget just how many bad superhero movies there were before Hollywood started consistently nailing the formula. They sunk Batman for a long time thanks to Schumacher and everything.

Gears of War 2 will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 7th, 2008.

Update July 2009: In a more recent interview Gears series creator Cliff Bleszinski said: “If you look at Gears of War 2 we actually tried to get away from it a little bit by doing things like letting the colours breathe and come through a little bit more. Stylistically though, I’d love to play in a different field in the near future in regards to what your typical expectation of a Gears of War game actually is.” Sounds like Gears of War 3 will have a different graphical style.

i was woundering if you will ever put gears on ps3 cause it has the blu ray and that seems to be the next gen type of gaming cause i love gears 1 and 2 cause the detail is amazing but on bluray i think you could make it much better so let me know thanks.

NO. GEARS OF WAR FRANCHISE SHOULD ALWAYS BE REMAIN EXCLUSIVE TO THE XBOX 360, ESPECIALLY IF THERE WILL BE A THIRD GAME IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I KNOW ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE TO HAPPEN, BUT IT WILL MAKE ALL THE GAME’S LOYAL FANS FEEL BETRAYED IF THE UNTHINKABLE COMES TRUE–COMING OUT FOR THE PS3. I HAVE A VERY TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FAITH TO EPIC GAMES KEEPING THIER PARTNERSHIP WITH MICROSOFT. GEARS OF WAR HELPED THE 360 WHERE IT IS TODAY, AND THE XBOX 360 HELPED THE GEARS OF WAR FRANCHISE TO BECOME A HOUSEHOLD GAME FOR THIS NEW GENERATION.

ok gears of war on ps 3 will not happen unless developers master how to use the cell b b engine to aid in graphics proccessing cause x360 graphics processing unit uses more than 40 alu which amounts 1 t flops/second of gpu proccessing power

Why would anyone want Gears of War to come out on PS3. Nobody wants that game. Thats like saying make a Halo game for PS3. The thought just makes my stomach turn. We already got MGS4, LBP and soon the real “GOW” God of War exclusively for the PS3. PS3 dont need Gears besides by the end of 2009 XBOX is going to need all the help and exclusives it can get.

I have this great idea that mite put gears of war 3 over the top. Command your team (Dom, Cole, and Baird) using voice commands, like in Endwar. Imagine playing through gears’ kick ass gameplay while screaming “Dom, flank left. Cole, retreat. Baird, supressing fire!!!!” into ur mic

Yeah i dont think gow should come out on ps3 but i seriusly think there should be a pendulum wars game and also explain the sires a little more. I also think there should be a compass or map on the live gamplay so you can tell ur friends where to go more directly

Let me start off by saying that it is likely that Gears of War will come to PS3. Epic games reps were quoted saying how Epic loves the PS3 platform, because it is an open platform. They said this after releasing a timed exclusive by the name of Unreal Tournament III. Let us not forget that the unreal engine (the same one that was used in gears one) was used to produce UTIII. So, Epic games is familiar with the PS3 hardware.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Epic signed a two year contract with Microsoft for gears, but that we will leave in the closet for now. Let us also not forget that Microsoft ripped Final Fantasy XIII from Sony(which is not that bad because Sony still has FFXIII Versus as an exclusive, which in my opinion looks better) and Grand Theft Auto 4. Microsoft paid big money for those games, and It was confirmed in an article I read that Sony may start paying money for some titles.

If we look at Sony in 2009 they have a mean lineup of games that not only revolutionize graphics on consoles, but also capacity. The list starts with Killzone 2 which is followed by God of War III, FF Versus, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Heavy Rain, and more, Sony already has MGS4, Resistance (sort of weak), Socom, All the amazing PSN titles, and more. That is a list of some of the major games released or announced. I am not being biased here, but the major 360 titles are Mass Effect (the second installment is rumored for PS3), Bioshock (now on PS3, with the second installment most likely multiplatform), Halo, the Gears series, and Dead Rising. The only game Sony needs to pay money (if they have to) to get is Gears, and if they do that will shut Xbox360 down. Imagine all of the incredible PS3 titles combined with Gears and Blu-Ray all with the confirmed one-hundred dollar price cut…= PLAY B3YOND dynasty
