Gears of War 3 and The Movie talk with Cliff Bleszinski

A new interview with Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War 2 (known by many as “Cliffy B.) has him discussing some very interesting things, primarily the likelihood of a Gears of War 3 releasing for the current-gen Xbox 360 platform, and a discussion about the upcoming Gears of War movie that is currently in development.

REGARDING GEARS OF WAR 3:

Question from Chris Stead: Does the Xbox 360 have enough left in it for a Gears of War 3, or will you be hoping that the next-generation of consoles rocks up in time for its release?
Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: Well we’ve never said anything about any sort of sequels, so it is all guess work and hearsay now about what anybody will come up with. But in terms of what the Xbox 360 is capable of… anytime you are doing console development you cannot count on anybody popping in a new video card or adding new memory or anything like that – we are working with that box. But I have a feeling that if we were to do a future product, which might be a possibility, our programmers will have a way to work their mojo and make something that really feels like a leap.

REGARDING THE GEARS OF WAR MOVIE:

Question from Chris Stead: The Gears of War movie will certainly help that exposure: you’re involved we believe. How are you going to buck the videogame-to-movie trend and not suck?

Answer by Cliff Bleszinski: I’m involved as the executive producer. It’s all about getting the right people attached. We take the material very seriously. People tend to have a short memory in general, I find, and people forget just how many bad superhero movies there were before Hollywood started consistently nailing the formula. They sunk Batman for a long time thanks to Schumacher and everything.

Gears of War 2 will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 7th, 2008.

Update July 2009: In a more recent interview Gears series creator Cliff Bleszinski said: “If you look at Gears of War 2 we actually tried to get away from it a little bit by doing things like letting the colours breathe and come through a little bit more. Stylistically though, I’d love to play in a different field in the near future in regards to what your typical expectation of a Gears of War game actually is.” Sounds like Gears of War 3 will have a different graphical style.

I think Gears 3 should have 4 player for those with out live as well as those with live and i think the story should have some thing to do with the Pendalum wars and well a continuation of gears 2..

gears of war 3 already?! wow!!!maybe they should make 3 for 360 and 720 kinda like zelda twilight princess. shane, your right about multiplayer still availible offline and because of you saying that I’m guessing you don’t have live. me neither.JQ, maybe not a lot of pc’s can handle gears, its a crazy game after all, why make it for pc if you have an xbox anyway?can’t wait for gears 3 and hopefully it won’t be a dissapointment to JQ even though I don’t know how gears 2 could be any kind of dissapointment.

PC could handle it with the right processors and Gears 2 was the biggest disapointment since Basic Math on the 2600, Gears 1 was 9999 centillion times better then 2. mcjakeqcool

Both of gears was amaizing in there own different ways but if they take the best parts from both then put them together to creat gears 3 then the game will be at the very top for quite sometime…..

Gears 3 would have an amaizing story because of all of the posibilities of different stories… … i liked the fact that they gave gears 2 good ending but they only flooded 1 section and theres still alott of world to cover… … … plus the locust queen escaped so that has to lead to sumert… … … there is loads of ideas but i dont think cliff bleszinski and the rest of epic would think of creating such an amaizing game… … …

y never no, gears of war the movie might have some pleasent suprizes in that could lead to a announcment to gears 3.. .. ..

cant wait to see what the movies like.. .. .. i hope they fech out some novels/ proper books and not comics to keep the hope for a 3rd game or even a second movie release.. .. ..

Gears 2 was not amazeing, it was crap with a capital C, and that’s just being suttle. Gears 1 was however amazeing and that’s without a personal slant. Gears the Movie, well Gears the Movie the game to say the very least cannot possibly be worse then Gears 2.

We need more falling down and decayed buildings NOT more locust caves
gears 2 was crap online.. ppl just didnt need any skill. Now on gears 1 thats a diff story 1 player could take out a whole oposing team… and thats imposible on gears 2 cos they slowed it down took away Run And Gun ..now you have to stop running and hard aim at walking speed for 2 seconds to kill someone.. that and pressing B button.

Not only was Gears 2 crap online, it was crap in general, Microsoft/Epic need to create a all round better game for Gears 3.
