Metal Slug 8 in HD being considered by SNK

SNK Playmore mentioned in a recent interview that their next Metal Slug 8 arcade shooter — assuming that will be the name of their next console iteration — might bring the 2D series into HD resolution. A strong hint it will be so, considering they are “running the next [Metal Slug] project now.” This would work similarly as to how the developer refit its upcoming The King of Fighters XII (KOF XII) game with more detail in its high-res hand drawn sprites.

“As for the game play, we trust the present style is the best for this title, bearing in mind the experience and know-how that has been accumulated by the development of the past Metal Slug games since 1996, and we’ll continuously investigate and improve it for the next installment.

In order to meet our fans’ demands for an HD version of Metal Slug, we’re considering bringing this title to the new generation of consoles, similar to KOF XII. We eagerly look forward to announcing this someday soon,” said SNK Playmore in an interview with IGN.

The next game in the series, Metal Slug 7 for DS, will be released in America on November 18 and in Europe & Australia on November 21st, 2008.
