Apple promoting videogames in new iPhone and iPod Touch features montage

Games are popular on the iPod Touch and iPhone
Last week Apple CEO Steve Jobs announcing the success of the App Store, where users have downloaded more than 100 million games and applications in the last 60 days. The majority of those downloads are iPhone games with over 700 games on the App Store as of today. Out of the gate, SEGA’s Super Monkey Ball for Iphone quickly established itself as a top-seller. Electronic Arts hopes to follow SEGA’s success with its recent release of Spore Origins on the App Store, which will be followed by a mobile version of Need for Speed Undercover. Gameloft’s Real Soccer 2009 was also announced and released last week, the iPhone/iPod Touch game is a fully licensed 3D soccer game featuring almost 200 teams and real life players.

Announced a while back was LucasArt’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed version for iPhone, and id Software’s mobile devision has also shown interest in the platform with plans to port Wolfenstein RPG and DOOM 2 RPG to the iPhone and their lead programmer John Carmack calling the handheld as powerful as a Dreamcast console.
