Retro gamers rejoice! It’s time for another round of classic games that were never released in Europe before. This, the third Hanabi Festival (named after the Japanese fireworks season), once again brings you previously unseen treats from Japan and the U.S. to enjoy via Virtual Console.

We’ve included videos of the games so you can see if it’s for you. But both are must-haves for any gamer. This week’s new games are:

Super Mario RPG for SNESSuper Mario RPG (SNES, 1 player, 900 Wii Points = €9 / £6.75 / AU$13.50): This legendary role-playing game from 1996 comes to PAL regions for the first time! Designed by the RPG experts at Square (Now Square Enix), Super Mario RPG is satisfyingly deep yet easy to pick up and play. Join Mario and friends (and even Bowser!) on a huge quest to defeat and all-new villain, Smithy, who threatens the entire Mushroom Kingdom! Fight enemies, conjure magic spells and sue items to advance your quest. Plus - look out for appearances from many other Nintendo charaacters along your way!

In-game text will be in English.

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels on NES (called Famicom Disk System in Japan)Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES, 1 player, 600 Wii Points = €6 / £4.50 / AU$9): Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Now available on the Virtual Console in all of its original splendor, Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated game play creates an entirely new challenge. No longer content just to wear different-colored overalls, Mario and Luigi also possess different skill sets: Mario can stop quicker, while Luigi can jump higher. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones, and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress) to take into account. And if that’s somehow not enough, expert players can go looking for the game’s secret worlds. So get ready to put your Mario skills to the ultimate test, and save the Princess again. Just don’t be surprised if she’s in another castle.

This game was only available 2 weeks last year and is now been permanently added for PAL gamers who then missed it.

I have only one thing to say . . . WHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t wait for this to be released here so I can buy it on my Wii and not ever have to worry about my game saves being erased again!

And let’s hope Nintendo follows this up soon with another “from overseas” list of Virtual Console releases that includes Mother 1 and EarthBound!
