The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is last game to bear Sierra name. Collector's item? The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor game will be Sierra’s last game!

The legendary video game developer started out almost 30 years ago as a small company going by the name “Sierra Entertainment” and started by a husband and wife duo who worked out of their own home. The company became critical favorite with it’s groundbreaking PC adventure franchises including King’s Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Police Quest. By the end of the 90′s the company became a full-fledged publisher, releasing PC classics like Half-Life and it’s expansions and Homeworld.

Sadly however, Sierra hit hard times within the past decade which were exasperated by a scandal that involved fraudulent business statements. Afterward the company was sold off to Vivendi and the name “Sierra” became a mere brand to be slapped onto certain titles. Then Vivendi merged with Activision to form “Activision Blizzard” and the Sierra name essentially died with that merger.

The saddest part though comes from the fact that one single title somehow managed to slip into manufacturing as the merger was taking place . . . thus maintaining the “Sierra” name. As the title says, that game is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (released on PS2, Wii and DS) which will forever got down in history as the last game to bear the Sierra name. Such a sad, tragic end to one of the most respected video game companies in our industry’s history.
