Alice and 100 clones from Resident EvilIf you haven’t seen the end of the third Resident Evil movie Resident Evil Extinction yet, you might want to avoid these Resident Evil 4 movie spoilers. Io9 had the chance to interview the director of the Resident Evil movies, Paul W.S. Anderson, and asked him about the fourth live-action movie that’s being planned right now.

Question: Are We Going To See An Army Of Alices?
Answer: We’re in very early discussions about all of it, so it’s not a definite thing by any means. Mila would like to return, and I would certainly like to see the franchise continue. Last year there were, I think, eight ‘threequels’ got released. Rush Hour 3, Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3…but there was eight of them. Shrek 3. Six out of the eight, the third movie did worse business than the second movie. There were only two where the third movie did better than the second movie. That was Bourne Ultimatum and Resident Evil. So, you know, it is quite an achievement for a franchise to keep growing like that, and we all feel that the audience is excited to see another one clearly. We would like, if we could put it together, we would do it.

Question: Right, but hypothetically how would you go about using all of those Alices?
Answer: I’m not going to tell you that. [laughs]… but we would.

Question: You would?
Answer: We would, yes. Absolutely.

Update July 2009: Resident Evil movies star Milla Jovovich (who plays Alice) has told a crowd of paparazzi the following about the Resident Evil 4 movie: “We’re going to start shooting at the end of the year.” A patient Jovovich confirmed to the always annoying paparazzi directly that she has signed on to do Resident Evil: Afterlife and filming will start at the end of the year. You can hear her say it for yourself in this Hollywood video:

Filming is said to take place in Toronto (filling in for Alaska) and Tokyo (naturally as Japan).

Additionally a studio insider claims that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil 4: Afterlife into theaters by September 17th, 2010.

By the end of the month director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson confirmed: “I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films. And we’ve been very lucky where it’s a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I’m really excited we’re doing it [in 3-D] and we’re using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don’t regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise.

It would make a lot of sense if they brought in some of the game characters like Chris, Barry, Hunk, etc. then they would have more people to add on. Not only that but with the more people that they have the better so that they can actually have somebody to get killed. Right now they need something like that because only like 4-5 are still alive anyway! Bring back Jill WTF! I think Alice was jealous and killed her behind the scenes, lol.

i think that they should have not innvolved alice because she is not part of the syoryline. i think hollywood messed up an other good game franchise. these people sicken me. the only real good game/movie is silent hill. well resident evil 3 and 2 is good but one was garbage. any way i hope they make a 4 and put jill, barry, chris and leon in it. they need to try to keep to the story line.

They are nit good video game movies, they really have nothing to do with the games, but they are not bad movies. Yea i wish from the begining they stuck to the story but they didnt and we are on number 4 now. its too late just keep the story. Then U can do the remake. (just kidding)

All you guys are wacked. The only bad movie of the bunch was part 2 (Apocalypse), and that was only because they deviated from the established canon and continuity by having Alice meet up with Jill and Carlos, and wacking Nicholai, thereby eliminating his major part in that sector of the game series. Alice IS a great character because she is like Wesker, in the aspect that her body joined with the T-virus in an unexpected way, and if Paul W.S. Anderson is smart, he’ll have the original Alice face off with Wesker in a showdown at the end, because it would make for a truly butt kicking, and potentially unique sequence.

they did well with this lot look at tomb radier and how that died in the ass cuse they stuck 2 the story uv played the game u cant want it2 be like the game ull know everything in the movie before u c it so dont hate the movies cuse there different. and the games r taking ideas out of the films

I think they should have never put mila in, and agree that they should have based the story line on jill and claire’s characters because they were in the first two games, either way a fourth movie would be good

Its already to late to go along with the main story in the games ( you would know that if you saw the third movie ) personaly, never should have put alice in there, but i guess everybody should just think of it as the “untold” story. The main characters like Leon, and Barry should show up. And of course Claire has to meet up with her brother Chris sometime!

who the heck is alice she was never part of the game and hollywood screwed the whole thing up. claire, leon, ada, chris are the game where are they

I really hope that Resident Evil 4 comes out! I don’t play the video game, but I really like the movies.

I think that the reason why Resident Evil 2 did so bad was because it was sooo cheesy. I think the creators went overboard on the costumes and made the zombies appear unrealistic.

I really liked Resident Evil 3 though. I think that it was “perfect.” I enjoy seeing her powers progress slowly.
