Alice and 100 clones from Resident EvilIf you haven’t seen the end of the third Resident Evil movie Resident Evil Extinction yet, you might want to avoid these Resident Evil 4 movie spoilers. Io9 had the chance to interview the director of the Resident Evil movies, Paul W.S. Anderson, and asked him about the fourth live-action movie that’s being planned right now.

Question: Are We Going To See An Army Of Alices?
Answer: We’re in very early discussions about all of it, so it’s not a definite thing by any means. Mila would like to return, and I would certainly like to see the franchise continue. Last year there were, I think, eight ‘threequels’ got released. Rush Hour 3, Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3…but there was eight of them. Shrek 3. Six out of the eight, the third movie did worse business than the second movie. There were only two where the third movie did better than the second movie. That was Bourne Ultimatum and Resident Evil. So, you know, it is quite an achievement for a franchise to keep growing like that, and we all feel that the audience is excited to see another one clearly. We would like, if we could put it together, we would do it.

Question: Right, but hypothetically how would you go about using all of those Alices?
Answer: I’m not going to tell you that. [laughs]… but we would.

Question: You would?
Answer: We would, yes. Absolutely.

Update July 2009: Resident Evil movies star Milla Jovovich (who plays Alice) has told a crowd of paparazzi the following about the Resident Evil 4 movie: “We’re going to start shooting at the end of the year.” A patient Jovovich confirmed to the always annoying paparazzi directly that she has signed on to do Resident Evil: Afterlife and filming will start at the end of the year. You can hear her say it for yourself in this Hollywood video:

Filming is said to take place in Toronto (filling in for Alaska) and Tokyo (naturally as Japan).

Additionally a studio insider claims that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil 4: Afterlife into theaters by September 17th, 2010.

By the end of the month director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson confirmed: “I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films. And we’ve been very lucky where it’s a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I’m really excited we’re doing it [in 3-D] and we’re using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don’t regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise.

I think im on the fence with this one. i agree that all the re movies have been doing great, as a hardcore re game fan i would also have liked to see more of the game characters such as leon, chris, barry, hunk ect. but in defence of the re movies i would have to say they put alot of time and effort into making them and they did an aceptionally good job but i also agree with people against it, the filmakers obviously must have known making an re movie would catch our eyes just like they obviously knew we wouldent like them, honistally the movies were ruind from #1. the movies should have been a whole different storyline from the games, what i mean by that is they never ever should have introduced any of the original characters around alice, just doing tht would confuse the audience and it did. in the fourth movie a good suggestion would be, take a break from alice and have it be like resident evil code veronica, with claire and also bring in leon and chris maybe even steve, and jus have it shows wut happens to them instead of them becoming like jill. because i like many others would like to know wtf happend to her, in all reality jill is the absolute main character n they just ditched her. well i hope the 4th movie dosent turn out bad.

I have to agree with Dan on this one, i def. enjoy the movies, but it seems like i can’t remember not playing resident evil games growing up. However the movies are nothing like the games and i think thats a real shame, i’d steer towards the orignal stories of the games for this fouth movie, but then again i’m not big time hollywood director.

I feel that had they gone in the same exact direction as the video games then it would (from my perspective) seem to be very controlled and therefore not allow for the freedom and creative thoughts of the writers.

I am a Fan of the games and of the movies. I own all games and all movies. I would love to see another movie come out. I would love to be in one, as an extra or character. I am a striving actor, just trying to make it up there. But it is hard. If you make another one please feel free to write me. I would love the chance to Audition for a part.. Thank You

1st movie was good, 2nd movie ruined by nemesis who for some reason, saved Alice although he killed a few stars members too. Hmm maybe he shouldnt have killed them for that to work. 3rd was brilliant IMO. I dont feel they should follow the game characters. Thatd be basically just watching what you played. Thatd be extremely boring and if you want it exactly like the game then you’d want the crazy over the top gestures they did. Looking straight at “Dont shoot im a human” in Resident Evil 2 game

I loved the Movie’s and the Games. But it was some BS that they just blew Jill off. I think that the 4th movie should have Jill and Claire in it. The Umbrelle Corp. captures Alice inject her with more of the T-Virus and she pretty much becomes like the one girl in RE Code Veronica. Have more of Wesker in the movie and even Barry and Chris who meet up with Jill and Claire Then if you guys make this one right you could maybe even have a up coming plot for a 5th movie i mean hell if they are making money why stop, just change it up so it gets the people yelling for more.

Big fan of the games. Love the movies too. I think that it is too late to take out Alice now and introduce the other characters- however it would have been nice if they started out with the first one to show some of the other characters.

I do agree that it would have been boring to play and watch the same scenarios unfold.

Can’t wait to see the next one none the less though.

  • http://none res fan

BIG FAN OF THE GAMES AND MOVIES

CANT WAIT I HOPE ALICE CONTINUES

AND SHE WILL AS IT WONT MAKE SENSE

WHAT WERE ALL THOSE CLONE ABOUT SO CANT WAIT

THERE HAS BEEN A ANIMATED VERSION CALLED DEGENARTION

  • re junkie

No matter what they do, as long as they keep Alice and Wesker in the movies, I am happy. Oh, and it’s about damn time they brought in Chris Redfield, what the hell?!

I know the story of the games pretty well since ive played just about every one of them. They need to include the hunters in the storyline as well as some giant freaky monsters like that giant spider in the 1st game… maybe even the plant.
