Alice and 100 clones from Resident EvilIf you haven’t seen the end of the third Resident Evil movie Resident Evil Extinction yet, you might want to avoid these Resident Evil 4 movie spoilers. Io9 had the chance to interview the director of the Resident Evil movies, Paul W.S. Anderson, and asked him about the fourth live-action movie that’s being planned right now.

Question: Are We Going To See An Army Of Alices?
Answer: We’re in very early discussions about all of it, so it’s not a definite thing by any means. Mila would like to return, and I would certainly like to see the franchise continue. Last year there were, I think, eight ‘threequels’ got released. Rush Hour 3, Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3…but there was eight of them. Shrek 3. Six out of the eight, the third movie did worse business than the second movie. There were only two where the third movie did better than the second movie. That was Bourne Ultimatum and Resident Evil. So, you know, it is quite an achievement for a franchise to keep growing like that, and we all feel that the audience is excited to see another one clearly. We would like, if we could put it together, we would do it.

Question: Right, but hypothetically how would you go about using all of those Alices?
Answer: I’m not going to tell you that. [laughs]… but we would.

Question: You would?
Answer: We would, yes. Absolutely.

Update July 2009: Resident Evil movies star Milla Jovovich (who plays Alice) has told a crowd of paparazzi the following about the Resident Evil 4 movie: “We’re going to start shooting at the end of the year.” A patient Jovovich confirmed to the always annoying paparazzi directly that she has signed on to do Resident Evil: Afterlife and filming will start at the end of the year. You can hear her say it for yourself in this Hollywood video:

Filming is said to take place in Toronto (filling in for Alaska) and Tokyo (naturally as Japan).

Additionally a studio insider claims that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil 4: Afterlife into theaters by September 17th, 2010.

By the end of the month director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson confirmed: “I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films. And we’ve been very lucky where it’s a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I’m really excited we’re doing it [in 3-D] and we’re using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don’t regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise.

i think many of us hardcore fans will agree that alice is an annoying character, we hope she won’t appear. she shadowed jill’s appeareance in RE2, and claire redfield. alice is not a very likeable character in my opinion. milla shuld occupy her time taking care of her baby, than screwing up RE. hint capcom prob. noticed how this douchebag f****** up the franchise that’s why they made Degeneration. SO paul, take a hint!

I disagree with you, Alice was the main character in all three movie and the ending of the third movie was literally based on her part.
there would be nothing left if they took her out

i think they should base the next movie off the resident evil 4 video game and a good actor to play leon would be Jensen Ackles because he already has exorience in horror shows like Supernatural

honestly im still waiting for a good RE movie, when i say i say good i mean GOOD. i wanna walk out of the theater saying damn that was awesome! as a hardcore RE fan, i just wanna see a movie where the actual characters from the games are in there, and not as side characters. the movies suck becuz they did there own thing instead of going with the games. but if they want another chance at makin a better movie than i say give it to them.

I have never really played the game before and was never interested in seeing the movie, but I saw the 1st one on tv and just had to rent the 2nd and 3rd. Even though some of the stuff didn’t make sense it doesn’t bother me alot b/c i’m not a hardcore fan. Now I CANT WAIT FOR THE 4TH!

i agree with the fact that they should follow the games stories better and include those characters, but taking out alice would screw up the movies cause they have already run too much off of her.. and adding jensen ackles as leon would be PERFECT! he used to have long bangs an looked like leon anyway!

Alice is awsome and put spice to the resident evil franchise but i would like to see all the main characters from the videogame too maby fighting around the world until alice finish’it in japan but alice must stay and the litte girl too from the 2nd movie

but something is on my mind?
Where is jill? She appears at the end of the last movie?
But she’s gone in the 3rd?

  • derek

i luvd all the filmz i would love 2 see a fourth. alice is the best character but yes i would liked to have seen jill in the last one but hey, gr8 films go RE4.

  • RiKkI

i am pretty sure in my oppinion that RE2 is the best 1 so farand forme its because its got 3 of the charecters from the game in but when i saw wesker in the fourth installment i must admit i was jolly so i think bring back jill and team up with alice and claire so the can take down wesker…
also id like to see chris redfield and leon
