New Midnight Club: Los Angeles trailer
Midnight Club: Los Angeles is the latest game in Rockstar’s best-selling Midnight Club series and the first next-gen entry in the franchise. The game is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this October (on the 7th in the U.S., 10th in Europe).
Like the name suggests, the game takes place in Los Angeles, California and will feature an open-world that is larger than the size of all three of cities from previous games combined!
As you can see from the new trailer for the game, the graphics have been boosted considerably and look very comparable, if not better, than the recent Rockstar hit Grand Theft Auto IV.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, Midnight Club: Los Angeles adds a day-to-night cycle as well as new weather effects (which will reportedly effect gameplay, so rain may make your tires slide on the road) and will once again see the return of motorcycles, although they will play a bigger part in the game. Rockstar also made it so that if you damage your vehicle, you don’t have to drive back to the garage for a full repair. You can now choose a “Quick Fix” option. This will add old, junkyard parts to your vehicle, after which you will eventually want to drive to the repair shop to get the vehicle to get the nicer parts back. You also must drive back to get the repairs, meaning that completely totaling your vehicle is no longer possible.
If you think you see major similarities between this game and GTAIV, you are right. Both games use Rockstar’s RAGE engine to create a more realistic map of L.A. than ever before. It’s so detailed and accurate that it even models traffic fluctuation, with heavy congestion in the morning and afternoon during rush hour, and little or no traffic at night. New additions to the cars themselves include customizable interiors as well as exotics. Cops also return but this time aren’t connected to a specific scripted racing event. They will now chase after you no matter where you are in the city. And to add even more realism to the game, the longer you run from them, the great the fine if you are finally caught and pulled over.
The developers have also done everything they can to completely eliminate load screens. They’ve stated that the player can literally go straight from the career mode and jump into an arcade race in under 10 seconds. Which will certainly make fans happy.
