Mortal Kombat's Scorpion sees nothing but bloodlust

Mortal Kombat 9 will return the series to it’s M-rated, blood-and-guts roots. This according to series creator Ed Boon in an interview with Kotaku at Comic-Con 2008.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, given the fact that Mortal Kombat 8 was promised to be a darker, grittier title than any before it (as well as being a total revamp of the series), before it was re-worked into it’s current form as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

This left a lot of fans disappointed (despite the fact that the game isn’t even out yet) and this is not a fact that has fallen on deaf ears for Ed Boon. Although there is little more than concept art for MK9, the grittier, darker version of MK is indeed in the works technology-wise and will strive for more blood, more violence and more of everything MK fans expect from the franchise (something that is limited to a degree by the DC license).

Sadly, the future of MK9 may very well depend on how well Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe sells. So here’s to hoping that all MK fans go out and support the franchise despite what they may think of the new twist (personally, I love it).

Update: It was revealed in April 2009, that with Midway going bankrupt, Midway’s team of 50 Mortal Kombat developers are talking to several other publishers to form their own studio and jump ship after 17 years.

plz add alot of blood even more then deception!
and make traps so awesome that they would actualy make belltower look gentle. and the fatalities easy to make plz u know like 1 key for faftality or make somtehink cheat kode to enter and mae fatalities easy like in mk4.
make very 3D graphyc somethink like svr and a more 2D gameplay like sf4.
ok thats what i want to see in the new mk.
and a konques mkdeception style if u dont have time it wuld be ok if u just copy paste deceptions and make mor characters and realms like reptiles or nitaras world. and a kaf that is more like svr or sc.
oh and very important mka air style thos kombos rock
make them even longer so you culd do a 50 hit kombo in air or somethink
and make 1 fightink style 1 weapon and 1 air style per character

If Midway want´s to stay alive as a game developer and make the MK series immortal, they should contact me. I´ve got a MK consept that WILL blow your mind! Im not bragging on this one. If they want to bring network gaming and the true spirit of mortal kombat to the next AND final level, im the man with the idea. I´ve allready once before tried to make an effort to contact Ed Boon with this idea with no luck. So… If you´re a fan, a midway employee or Ed Boon himself and are reading this, guess what. All that blood, gore and glorious violence that every MK fan ever wanted, is waiting inside my head for a chance to get out and reach YOUR game console. And all i want in return is a copy of the game for my playstation 3.

Here is a litte taste of my MK vision.
I want to take MK all the way BACK to the very beginnig all over again.
I want to rip Mortal Kombat apart and strip of ALL the bad flesh, just to give it a all new body and soul. Bigger and sharper teeth, stronger muscles and a battle roar that will be remembered for ever.

If Midway creates even one more game like MK vs DC comics, they´ll be digging their own grave. Both the consol AND network gaming is on a whole new level today. They should take that to an advantage. I wish i had the money to “save” the Mortal Kombat series from total destruction, but i´m just the guy that the idea is going to die with. Who cares…

i agree thats what needs to happen they have gotten so soft and corny its a sad story take it back old school and show how the mk started and make u have a better feel as yourself was in the tournment and hear realistic punches and bone cracks, boold just steadily gushing as if it was nasty

I think if the ps3 version of this MK is going to include Kratos, then the Xbox 360 should include The Predator…the perfect killer…
