Mortal Kombat 9 will be the true Mature return to form

Mortal Kombat's Scorpion sees nothing but bloodlust

Mortal Kombat 9 will return the series to it’s M-rated, blood-and-guts roots. This according to series creator Ed Boon in an interview with Kotaku at Comic-Con 2008.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, given the fact that Mortal Kombat 8 was promised to be a darker, grittier title than any before it (as well as being a total revamp of the series), before it was re-worked into it’s current form as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

This left a lot of fans disappointed (despite the fact that the game isn’t even out yet) and this is not a fact that has fallen on deaf ears for Ed Boon. Although there is little more than concept art for MK9, the grittier, darker version of MK is indeed in the works technology-wise and will strive for more blood, more violence and more of everything MK fans expect from the franchise (something that is limited to a degree by the DC license).

Sadly, the future of MK9 may very well depend on how well Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe sells. So here’s to hoping that all MK fans go out and support the franchise despite what they may think of the new twist (personally, I love it).

Update: It was revealed in April 2009, that with Midway going bankrupt, Midway’s team of 50 Mortal Kombat developers are talking to several other publishers to form their own studio and jump ship after 17 years.

Mortal Kombat vs Marvel would’nt work because Marvel is not dark enough for Mortal Kombat!

Marvel is all colourful and sparkley like Street Fighter!

DC is dark and gritty like Mortal Kombat!

so if you look at it this way then i think it ‘will’ work!!!

And its great to know that the Mortal Kombat universe is being put on the same level as Batman/Superman and the DC universe!!! mixing it with some real top dogs!!!

Roll on a new line in Mortal Kombat comic/novels by DC!

…you heard it hear from me first!!! remember that folks!!!

I would love a StreetFighter vs. Mortal Kombat that would be pretty sweet.

Well that’s good news. Put me on the list of “very disappointed” when I heard the new MK was going to be a hybrid with DC Universe. I had gotten excited when I read how MK was going to hit the reset button for the next game, and then saw the news that they basically took the same old game and added Batman to it. Who cares! I’ll be on the lookout for MK9. Someone wake me when MK8 is over…

mk 9 better be rated m, not a crossover, and have the following characters:(kano, liu kang, raiden, cage, scorpion, sub-zero, sonya, reptile, goro, and shang tsung) And they better have their signature fatalities.

i didnt like the crossover either, but it should be good enough to play until mk9. CANT WAIT :D

hmm…yea mk 9. i had some thoughts on it. i was thinking really hard about this. mk armagedon was fun. it was cool. you could pretty much customize your whole character from top to bottom. You could change your characters fighting style, special moves, stance, clothes, etc. It was pretty unique. The only thing i didnt like from the game was that no one had any signiture fatalities. it was kinda fustrating and boring to see the fatalities you could pull off. dont get me wrong, pulling someones arm(s) off then hitting them with thier own arm(s) is pretty cool, but it just didnt feel right without the sig. fatalities.
But i was thinkin one day what if….
what if they kida borrowed Def Jams Fight For NY special move concept. You know…..when you defeated someone in story mode, you would be able to unlock there sig. finishing move. That way your custom character had a variety of finishing moves instead of just one. of course you would have to spend some points in order to fully unlock someones sig. move.
So…I was thinkn wut if midway did the same thing. It would be cool to fight a mk character then defeat them then gain their sig. fatality. that way your custom character would have any of the mk characters fatalities. I think it would be cool to have barakas fatality for my custom character, my opinion though.
Man, that would be so cool if they did this!
lol, does anyone even know wut im talkin about. Has anyone ever played def jam fight for ny?

I really am not impressed with MK Vs. DC, the character selections suck. They left out far too many good characters and put too many stupid ones in. I hope that they improve from this game. I love Mortal Kombat but this one I just can’t stand behind because it’s far too dissappointing. They need to just stick with regular MK and not try to mix other stuff in with it, that’s my oppinion.

this game really dissappointed me, i mean, very few blood?, really dumb fatalitys?, the mortal kombat deception had the best ones, individuals and very painful, i mean, the one of sub-zero frozing the body, getting the head, stepping back and then throwing it, that’s the best fatality ever, and right now looking how body breaks, no blood, no pain, it really sucks :( , i hope that mk9 really have that killer sense inside, more darkness, more blood and the best fatalities ever.

I think mortal kombat should go 2d kind of like street fighter4

ultimate_savage I disagree with you, Marvel is alot darker than DC throughout the whole f*ckin game DC characters were sayin that they dont kill there enemies and friends and in Marvel you have characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, Hulk, and alot more other characters that actually kill there foes not throw them in f*ckin jail
