Sonic Unleashed Werehog beast form revealed, brings beat ‘em up gameplay
Sonic Unleashed is the new Sonic the Hedgehog game from Sonic Team for Xbox 360 and PS3 (also coming to the Wii and PS2, but not in the same form). The game has an all-new engine and truly looks beautiful graphically. It also returns Sonic to his extremely speedy roots by featuring blazingly fast gameplay from not only the typical 3D perspective but also from a side-scrolling perspective. Which can only be a good thing.
However by looking at the trailer below from E3 2008, which reveals Sonic’s new Werewolf form, I still have a few concerns. First off, the music . . . Now I’m not a complete hater, but Sega has been on this “let’s make some new pop/rap/rock songs with lyrics for our games” for a while and I can think of next to know one who actually liked the songs or found them to be a plus. If you ask me, one of Sega and Sonic Team’s worst areas since Sonic Adventure has been in the voice-acting department, whether they appeared as song lyrics or not. So hearing the song in this trailer, even though it’s pretty good, doesn’t fill me with confidence . . . The game is going back to it’s roots in the gameplay department, so let’s hope they layer on the Sonic remixes of classic tunes and don’t try to muck it up with “all-new” music . . .
Secondly, the gameplay with the Werewolf Sonic doesn’t immediately strike me as awesome. It does look like he has some cool moves, but it also looks like he might move slower. What Sonic fans want is speed.
But anyway, the trailer is still pretty impressive and has me hopeful that Sonic Team can finally bring the Blue Blur a game he can be proud of.
