Wanted video game coming from Universal
A video game version of Wanted (the recent movie starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie) is in the works, being developed by GRIN.
The game will feature intense third-person action where the combat is enhanced by the addition of signature moves pulled from the movie, such as the ability to “curve bullets” and “Assassin Time”, as well as an “innovated, multi-layered cover mechanic”.
The movie was based on the graphic novel by Mark Miller and the video game in turn will act as a sort of sequel to the movie, picking up where it left off. It will explore Wesley’s journey to becoming an uberassassin and the epic fiction of the Fraternity.
Wanted will be the first video game that is self-financed and Produced by Universal themselves (since the 90′s anyway when they had Universal Interactive). The studio has stated that they intend to get into the video game business starting with Wanted, and that they will selectively pick what movies they think should be turned into games. Getting into the video game business themselves will also allow both a foothold into the industry and the ability to get production started sooner so they don’t have to wait for a licensing deal (since they will already own the license). Interestingly enough though, Warner Bros. will be handling the publishing for Universal.
Having Universal making games will mark the fourth studio that is doing so. The others are Disney, Warner Bros. and Paramount. Check out more Wanted (game) screenshots for a better look at the game.
