Resident Evil 5 online co-op gameplay footage in E3 2008 video

Pre-Order Resident Evil 5 on Xbox 360Resident Evil 5 was shown at the Microsoft Pre-E3 Press Conference where co-op gameplay shown in video form for the first time! Resident Evil 5’s online co-op was previously leaked along with the return of the Mercenaries Mode from Resident Evil 4, which was not elaborated upon at the E3 press conference.

Resident Evil 5 will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a worldwide simultaneous release on Friday the 13th, 2009.

In the game you play as Chris Redfield in Africa. He has joined a new organization called the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance). In the video Chris reaches a gap that he can’t pass on his own. It is then that he is joined by another playable character, the female was revealed to be Sheva Alomar who was shown in a previous trailer. Chris is shown cupping his hands to allow Sheva to use them to step and leap over the gap. When Sheva encounters some enemies, Chris helps her by sniping them from afar. She eventually shoots off a padlock on a door so that Chris can join her. They are then confronted by a new chainsaw wielding enemy ala “Dr. Salvador” aka The Chainsaw Guy (with a bag over his head) from Resident Evil 4. It is there that the demo ends.

The gameplay looks very much like Resident Evil 4 (although I must say some of the enemy animations are erratic and unrealistic at this point. I’m sure that’ll be fixed though) and it’ll be interesting to see more of the game as E3 2008 continues.

Resident Evil 5’s plot will be set 10 years after the events in the first Resident Evil game and set in Africa. It will also concern the origins of the Progenitor Virus that fans will remember from Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
