Is the next Halo game “darker, grittier,” tactical and without Master Chief?

An “insider source” with knowledge of the next Halo game has said that sometime this year Bungie will announce a “darker, grittier” Halo title without Master Chief in it.

According to the Gamespot source, the new Halo game will be a spin-off that resembles “a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War.” As in a tactical shooter. It will supposedly tell a “less cartoony” and “more bloody, violent, and grim” tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the Covenant. The game’s atmosphere was also described as similar to that of the live-action Halo shorts.

Expect Bungie’s next (Halo) game to be announced at the Pre-E3 Microsoft keynote that starts today at 10:30AM PST (US) / 19:30PM CET (UK). Watch E3 live at Gamespot so see the unveiling and find out if it’s true or not.

Sounds great. Personally, I get tired of series that keep putting out the same old stuff. I think it’s a good thing if they decide to deviate from master chief.

bob, ur an itiot. that would ruin the entire series. halo belongs on the xbox, and only on the xbox. having that said, i woulsnt mind not haveing master chief out of the way, but having him back eventaully would be cool.

halo pwnns and it would be a twist to play as a marine or dif charachters through halo 4s campaign but in last level u find cheif and become him or u see him dead with his face exposed… only to be ronald mcdonald!

you cant leve out teh master chief it would ruin it he is halo. hge needs at least 1 or 2 levels of his own i wouldnt mind it if you were teh arbiter then the chief on the last levels.

no true follower of the chief would say that they wish that he was out of the game. im sure the game will be a great experience playing as an ODST, but the ultimate experience is playing as the savior of humanity, the beloved Master Chief. He has left us momentarily, but will return to save us all

no way u should never leave out master cheif maybe play as a marine sometimes but at least have master cheif come in at the end to save us all maybe even have another spartan surviver (like one of master cheif’s old freinds from halo wars) and play as him untill master cheif comes in becaus cortana comes in on master cheifs freind like it did on halo 3 and tells him everything (where they are etc.)
