It has been revealed that Sonic Unleashed for the Wii & PS2 is not being developed by Sonic Team. But rather by Dimps, the developers who did Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS. This was revealed in a Play Magazine interview where the following is said:
“Sonic Team is managing the Wii development, but the coding and some of the design is being handled by some of our external partners in Japan. Fans of Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure will be pleased to hear that Dimps is involved in designing the [daytime] Wii [and PS2] stages!”
The article also states that the Dimps’ version of the game will use an entirely different engine to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, include different levels and gameplay elements, and heavily focus on 2D gameplay. Which is a very good thing, because Dimps has a better reputation for making good Sonic games than even Sonic Team . . .
