Another Xbox 360 price cuts by Microsoft in Australia and New Zealand

Xbox 360 Core Arcade BundleLast year Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox 360’s Core package in Australia to the same price as the Wii there. Now Microsoft has announced that it has lowered the price of its Xbox 360 to AU$349.

A talk with Microsoft’s Xbox Group Product Marketing Manager, Jeremy Hinton, reveals that “the Core wasn’t the right product. We listened to what consumers said about it; why they weren’t purchasing it.” So the new pricing is as follows: The Xbox 360 Arcade console (256MB memory unit and five Xbox Live Arcade games but no harddrive) is now retailing for AU$349 (previously AU$399). The Xbox 360 Pro (20GB harddrive and headset) is now AU$499 (previously AU$579). The Xbox 360 Elite (120GB harddrive, headset and HDMI cable) is now AU$649 (previously Au$729). — This makes the Xbox 360 Arcade the cheapest next-gen console on the market (ahead of the AU$399 Wii) and all three versions of the Xbox 360 are cheaper than the AU$699 PS3.

Taking a look at the latest console hardware figures, Wii is the current market leader with 456,000 units sold in Australia and New Zealand. Xbox 360 is slightly behind with 410,000 units and PS3 trails significantly at 285,000 units.

New Zealand gamers will also receive price cuts in their territory. The Arcade will be priced at NZ$399, the Pro will now go for NZ$549 and the Elite will come in at NZ$699, reports IGN.
