PS3 Video Download Service PicSony has announced it’s PS3 video download service at their mid-term business plan meeting. The service will allow you to watch movies much like you can on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Further details will no doubt be announced at E3 (such as if you get to keep them after downloading), but you can see the first screenshot of the service and it’s look above.

Sony also played up it’s numbers game and they are quite impressive. The PSP has currently sold over 37 million units while the PS3 has moved over 12 million units since launch. For a grand total of around 49 million units in worldwide sales for both systems.

In addition, close to 10 million PSN Accounts have been created (9.8 million to be exact). Here’s some more interesting numbers as well:

Cumulative Number of Registrants:
Over 9.8 million accounts worldwide

Distributed Data Volume:
Approx. 86 peta bytes
(equivalent to 17 million single layer DVDs)

Total downloads: 170 million

PlayStation Network numbers

It looks like Sony’s numbers will continue to be very solid as sales of the PS3 have increased and even eclipsed the Xbox 360 in recent times. Which is always a good thing when PS3 development has cost Sony $3.42 billion.

Well, if Sony has sold at least 12 million PS3s, then I think they’re way past that $3.32 billion dollar mark! So, I guess they’re in good shape now!!! Good thing, cause I want them to do well!!!
