Soul Eater game based on anime announced for Wii by Square Enix
Soul Eater: Monotone Princess is the latest video game adaption of an anime to be announced for the Wii. It is in development by Square Enix who also produced the manga series that the game is based on, which was subsequently turned into an anime as well.
There is no date yet set for the game, and it hasn’t been announced for release outside of Japan. Details are also scarce but the game looks to be more action based rather than a hardcore RPG. There is also a DS version scheduled for release in Autumn 2008.
Soul Eater was first released in Japan in manga form by Square Enix in 2003. It was written and illustrated by Atsushi Okubo and was later serialized in Square Enix’s monthly Shonen Gangan manga magazine in May of 2004, with the first bound volume released by Square Enix under the Gangan Comics imprint in June of that year (in Japan), and as of March 2008 eight volumes have been released. Thankfully for us Americans, Yen Press has picked up the license to distribute the manga in North America. It’ll be serialized in the first issue of Yen Plus manga anthology magazine on July 29th with the first volume set for release in early 2009.
As far as the anime is concerned, it first aired on TV Tokyo in Japan on April 7th, 2008 and is set for 52 episodes, produced by Bones. Set in the shinigami technical school for weapon meisters, the series revolves around three groups of each a weapon meister and a human weapon. Trying to make the latter a “Death Scythe” and thus fit for use by a shinigami, they must collect the souls of ninety-nine evil humans and one witch.
