F-Zero Grand Prix in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii
A new F-Zero Wii game is said to be unveiled by Nintendo at the E3 Summit 2008 on July 15-17th, currently it’s codenamed F-Zero Z. Expect the racing game to have been developed internally at Nintendo; Since Shigeru Miyamoto commented that the past F-Zero and Star Fox collaborations with outside development houses (in F-Zero GX & AX’s case Sega) turned out to be a disappointment for Nintendo. To quote him: “consumers got very excited about the idea of those games, but the games themselves did not deliver”.

Features for F-Zero Wii include:
* All the tracks from F-Zero GX.
* An online multiplayer mode.
* “A weapon system has also been confirmed,” according to German website NintendoPlanet who leaked the news a while back.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said a few months ago that the line-up for the second half of 2008 had yet to be announced, but things would be changing soon. To quote: “There’s gonna be a big game for the holiday that gamers will want. All I can tell you is what [lineup of games] we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited.”

Nintendo themselves keep dropping references to F-Zero in their most popular games. In the above screenshot you can see F-Zero Grand Prix is a special stage that appears in Adventure Mode and Event 33: Lethal Marathon of the Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, not surprising with Captain Falcon being a series regular. A similar cameo appears in Mario Kart Wii, where you can select F-Zero’s Blue Falcon as a kart. Watch the unlockable here:

    “F-Zero GX & AX’s turned out to be a disappointment for Nintendo.”

    Not casual enough? Because it turned out great for us. One of the best games on the GameCube.

    “A weapon system has also been confirmed”

    Instead of applying this “causal = more money” plan on game that certainly does not deserver it you could just make another Mario Kart. Because if I want some family fun that’s what I play. Serous game like F-Zero don’t need items. This is unforgivable.

    This all sounds like complete crap. You think if the Wii game was real, they’d say something about the controls. And a weapon system? WTF? That’s not F-Zero. That’s Wipeout or one of hose F-Zero knockoffs.
    An F-Zero game I’d like to see would have the Grand Prix mode and all that fun stuff (machine customization!), but with a better story mode. Shiny cutscenes and all that, but I’d also like a sandbox-style adventure game with a main storyline and side missions. Not so much for racing, but to flesh out the universe more. It’s a great game with a nice atmosphere, so why not delve into it a little more? See F-Zero beyond the racetrack…
    Just a thought.

  • Why do you care about names…?

    A weapon system will absolutely ruin F-Zero.

    All the tracks from F-Zero GX isn’t a terrible idea, but I don’t think it’s very good either. I would, however, like to see cups that have tracks from the older games in the series (Kind of like in Mario Kart DS and Wii), like for example if a cup contained Mute City 1 (SNES), Bianca City: Stretch Circuit (Maximum Velocity), Big Blue: Cylinder (X), Aeropolis: Multiplex (GX) and White Land: Wolf (Climax). That would be something I’d like to see in a F-Zero for the Wii

    Imagine an online multiplayer in F-Zero. Would it be played by like 30 players at a time? I can imagine that, and it would be absolutely awesome. But what if a bunch of people found something like the snaking technique on GX that would give them an unfair advantage?

    I think that if there is ever going to be a F Zero game for Wii it will probably be a cross betweeen F Zero X and F Zero GX as far as the tracks go. It probably won’t have “all the tracks from GX” except maybe a select few stages like Super Smash Bros. Brawl had a few levels from Melee and I for one don’t think that “Sega failed to deliver” all the Nintendo only F Zeros were great but F Zero GX was a masterpiece. Unfortunately there is a chance that there will ever even be another F Zero game released in the U.S. after F Zero GP Legend.
