Boom Blox sales make EA content

Boom Blox for WiiElectronic Arts CEO John Riccitello told an audience at the William Blair Investor Conference yesterday that the 60,000 sales for the Wii-exclusive puzzler Boom Blox in its first month on store shelves were on target and made them content. To quote: “It has met our expectations internally,” he said. “It’s continued to sell well. It did break into the top 10 for the Wii, and the advertising is doing exactly what [our] team expected to: drive sales.”

Analysts were first in line to shout loudly about these financial numbers once they are in. To cover up their wrong predictions they usually make unfounded proclamations such as “Boom Blox was a true test of the potential for third-party success on Nintendo Wii. It appears that success on the Wii will remain difficult to achieve,” said analyst Evan Wilson during his NPD analysis for May 2008. — Personally I’d like to point out the $50 price tag was simple too high for a puzzling game. Point and case would be that even Zack & Wiki managed to sell 300,000 in half a year with a $40 price tag. Expect Boom Blox sales to increase if EA lower the price to a more fitting $30. No matter the price, it’s a fun game by Steven Spielberg that deserves to sell well.
