Unreal Tournament 4 release expected alongside Unreal Engine 4.0 completion

Looking forward to the next next-gen (8th console generation) Unreal Engine 4.0 is expected to be released with Unreal Tournament 4 to show off its prowess, as with every new Unreal Engine comes a showpiece, usually an Unreal game. An example of this happened before the release of Unreal Engine 3, when Epic Games’ own projects — Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 2007 (later renamed to Unreal Tournament 3) — were touted as the company’s showcase titles for the latest Unreal technology.

Back in August 2005, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein revealed that the creators of the Unreal games and technology have already begun work [two years before in 2003] on what will eventually become Unreal Engine 4.

Unreal Tournament 3 for PCEpic Games boss Tim Sweeney, who’s been working on the Unreal Engine 4 core system design as the technical director, said in March 2008: “There is a long life ahead for Unreal Engine 3. [Unreal Engine] Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft’s successor for the Xbox 360 [AKA Xbox 720], Sony’s successor for the PlayStation 3 [AKA PlayStation 4] – and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs [AKA Wii 2], then that also. PCs will follow after that.” Mark Rein later clarified that Tim Sweeney meant that Unreal Engine 4 was coming to PC, and that “When Tim Sweeney was talking about Unreal Engine 4 … he mentioned something along the lines of it being exclusively for the next generation of consoles… what he meant was, it won’t run on this generation of consoles.”

For those interested, Unreal Engine 4 development will fully start sometime in 2008. With the next generation of consoles not expected to launch until around 2011-2012, it’ll be a while before you’ll be fragging photo-realistic enemies in Unreal Tournament 4.

is there going to be UT4

Honestly, if they make the characters look anything like 4, the gay Malcolm, then not even I, (the biggest fan of Unreal Tournament ever would want to play it.

this game on console first ????¿¿¿¿????

Epic fail by unreal !

UT = PC gaming

let xbox come on with st**it kungfu panda cr*p

Unreal is not for console only noobs wil try it

this is a epic r4pe for pc gamers

imagen multidodging and goodaiming with a joystick LOOOOOOOOLLLLL
XD XD XD XD XD

Don’t see the point in them talking about a PS4 when PS3 is supposed to last a good 10 years from it’s launch unlike the past two consoles. Eh well.

As for UT not being on consoles…bull, s’just as good on consoles as it is on the PC. No game should be exclusive to one thing or the other, s’like saying Formula 1 games should never touch a PC’s HDD.

Sorry, I like the looks in 3 more than 4. That outfit in photo realistic is just too… effeminate let’s say. It don’t look right. Sorry.

uhhhhh couple of things……..ps4? play station is almost bankrupt, and as for console ideas i say y not, its a lil harder yes but i wanna c it done, and i don’t know if any of you realized it……but that last pic is a pic from judge dredd so calm down fan boys you know its a flook……thot i should mention again play station is almost bankrupt XD

Generally i’m a little disappointed with the shift away from PC gaming that epic games is trying to implement. Epic Games, currently my favourite games development company and who I one day hope to work for, is trying to ultimately increase its sales. It is a business after all. But I think that ultimately for the hardcore gamers out there, the PC has and will always dominate the FPS genre. The simple player-console mechanics of using a mouse makes the console an obsolete platform to the PC in this regard. Epic has taken a predictive look at how to increase sales, and sees that consoles will be the way forward for this rather than their PC strategy thus far (bar Gears of war 2). I think they’ve wildly misinterprated how to increase their sales by doing this. They will likely see as many sales using the next-gen console games, not more – because the target audience who they cater for is not the casual gamer who likes to idly play mariokart with his friends or likes hitting tennis balls / cooking with a wii remote. No, the games epic creates are for the hardcore gamers – and inevitably, most of them will be disappointed to see some of their beloved FPSs configured to primarily accomodate the next-gen consoles.

I pray that epic keeps its PC roots good and strong, because otherwise I for one will likely lose interest in their games. I prefer the Unreal series to Gears of war 1 or 2, and it is clearly after the success of Gears that has caused them to consider this shift.

omg i beat the game and now i have to wait thats gay

LOL! I still play UT2004. UT3 was such a major disappointment. Hey let’s create an orb for all the nubs that can’t figure out how to bring down a node in ONS!

UT3 was such a bad console port. I don’t even want to imagine UT4. RIP UT2004. You were the last great Unreal Tournament. Another Epic Fail. Thanks for turning your backs on the PC players that have been playing your games since the late 90s.

Valve, you are my last hope.
