Not Marvel VS. Capcom 3, but a Tatsunoka VS. Capcom fighting game heads to Japanese arcades

Sorry brawler fans, with all the licensing issues Capcom isn’t working on Marvel VS. Capcom 3. But instead on a new Capcom versus fighting game titled “Tatsunoko Productions VS. Capcom Cross Generation of Heroes” will be coming to Japanese arcades. This 2D crossover versus fighter pits the heroes and heels of the Capcom character stable against the superheroes and other favorite figures of the Tatsunoko anime studio, such as Space Ace, Speed Racer, and Yattaman.
The first two confirmed playable characters from Tatsunoko are: Gatchaman and Casshern.
The first two confirmed playable characters from Capcom are: Ryu and Chun Li.

The fighting system is based on two on two tag battles. You select two characters and freely switch off with them during the fight. You can also call upon your partner fighter for assist attacks and counters. In the translation by IGN from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, they explain to expect “gaudy special attacks and hyper combos that fill the screen with lighting and transparency effects. Even the gameplay is flashy, with super jumps and aerial combos. Those who played the old versus titles will recognize Ryu’s air-based fireball attacks.”
Update September 26th, 2008: Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono said that he would “like to do another Marvel game, a Marvel vs. Capcom.” So at least there is interest in Marvel VS. Capcom 3 from Capcom’s side.
