Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom’s mind. Devil May Cry 4 record sales of 2 million make plans all but certain

Devil May Cry 5 Xbox 360 fake boxart Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him. This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom’s fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4′s record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold*. It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying “We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available.”

To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi’s words from last year: “Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It’s totally up to them.

However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you don’t buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ‘Why didn’t I buy it?’ There’s no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. That’s the kind of game it’s going to turn out to be.”

Update May 2010: Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory has long been rumored to be working on a project in collaboration with Capcom. When Ninja Theory studio boss Tameem Antoniades was recently asked if the project was Devil May Cry 5, he said: “Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it.” But it’s a good possibility with Capcom also recently announcing that any new IPs from them would be made in-house in Japan, with Western studios being brought in to do sequels.

Would make for a nice E3 2010 announcement mid-June, don’t you think?

i think dante sould be the evil one is when he comes back in num 2 from the demon world something mite of happend 2 him. if this happen nero will have to come back and vergil and anyone els. that would fit in the story line.

I will never know why Capcom changet/discardet 1st script for DMC4 (Vergil and Dante involved but NO NEWCOMERS)

And we got Nero anoying emo kid, but good fighter..

I just hope they wont go co-op with DMC5 like they said.
No Dante as a lead character, no DMC for me anymore.

True… And locations in DMC4 where all somehow disconected short and limited, no huge levels or more freedom. And Dante and Nero look in it’s best graphics glory only during in-game cutscenes.U play with less detailed Dante,no high shadows or textures. For me DMC4 deserve high score only for fantastic cutscenes! DMC is and will always be my favourite Hard Core action game of all time. And Dante is Untouchable, best antihero ever, I just cannot imagine anyone better then him! SNAKE is on my 2nd place

if capcom whats to really bring in some good money and also make the storyline actually fix together. they need to release all the games cept for dmc4 with the same graphics as dmc4 and have the whole story line fit together cause how the rerelease the games and the storyline. its just a little to confuseing to me. but it does have a great storyline once you play them in order. of course they have to do some editing to the games to have all the characters fit in right.cause yeah sure the order is 3,1,4,2, but thats just to messed up of an order of releases. but like i said they should rerelease the games 123 with better graphics and have all the games fit in order of the storyline.

I’d like to play as Sparda in devil may cry 5 we must know what happened in the demon world. Then in DMC6, we play as vergil and a secondary character that you find in the hell.

between DMC5 and DMC6 a Remake of dmc1 and 2 with new graphics and new modes/extras – both game in one disk

I am really looking forward for DMC5,
a good story in concept for DMC5, that it will have around 3o missions, with dante, vergil and nero all as playable, first dante plays 8 missions, then being defeated and virgil comes in and continue (picking up his yamato) after 10 missions and being defeated dante saves the day and plays 12 missions to the end and defeat the final boss
also adding other features like the bloody palace (I played everyday) and make it mutliplayer (cool) and other feature like the ones in god of war
