Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom’s mind. Devil May Cry 4 record sales of 2 million make plans all but certain

Devil May Cry 5 Xbox 360 fake boxart Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him. This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom’s fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4′s record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold*. It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying “We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available.”

To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi’s words from last year: “Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It’s totally up to them.

However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you don’t buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ‘Why didn’t I buy it?’ There’s no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. That’s the kind of game it’s going to turn out to be.”

Update May 2010: Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory has long been rumored to be working on a project in collaboration with Capcom. When Ninja Theory studio boss Tameem Antoniades was recently asked if the project was Devil May Cry 5, he said: “Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it.” But it’s a good possibility with Capcom also recently announcing that any new IPs from them would be made in-house in Japan, with Western studios being brought in to do sequels.

Would make for a nice E3 2010 announcement mid-June, don’t you think?

If DMC5 is on capcom’s mind i’d hope they bring back the original enemies and bosses
from DMC1 just have them with new and improved powers perhaps even new bodies
here are just a few that i hope to see if DMC5 is on capcom’s mind.

Griffon, scythe, the bloody puppets, mundus of course because he created all these minions from the underworld

Also, explain what happened to virgil? in DMC3 and also lucia from DMC2 whatever happened to her? i’d know she was a creation of arius, and arius ambition was to obtain power from the argosax, whatever that was i need somone to explain that to me.

If there will be Devil May Cry 5, then I’m hoping for several things.
First, Vergil must appear as a SEPARATE character, like in Devil May Cry 3, and not be a part of Nero Angelo.
Second, I think Vergil should take up Dante’s side. They are brothers after all, and they should fight together, not against eachother.
Also, Vergil should explain to Dante what he has been through, like, why he turned to Nelo in the 1st game, what happened after the 3rd game, etc.
If Capcom decides that Vergil should be a bad character, and a part of Nero, in the 5th game, then I’ll be disappointed.
Vergil and Dante are the two sons of Sparda, and they have to fight together. Vergil is as much of an important character as Dante is.
That is what I think. I hope I am at least partly right.

I think devil may cry 5 should have Sparda in it and like having an ending of when dante and vergil are born and they are both young boys with their mom being alive. That would lead up to devil may cry 3.

The DMC5 should have Sparda’s original form and new enemis.It should be like this.One portal still is in optional work and summons demons from one of the worst realms of the underhell.Pandora opend and made Dante a evil and powerfull demon what stands to destroy the world.But somehow Sparda is back and is on the way to free him.Nero is with sparda and gets new powers and a real demon form(i dont like the one in DMC4) and there is a new game capcom should be abled to make it.

Actually if they make a Devil May Cry 5 I would like them to continue off from where the 4th left off. Don’t get me wrong Lucia and Vergil are important too, but there are WAY too many questions left from the 4th. Now that they introduced Nero to the series they need to explain some VERY important questions.

1. What happened to his parents exactly?
2. Who are his parents?
3. How does he have the blood of Sparda?
4. How did he come to possess the Devil Bringer? (This is probably the least important question)

I have some of my own theries with these questions that would make for some good plots twists but i’m not gonna get into those. By explaining these you could also put Vergil and Dante into the plot. Another thing is how was Yamato destroyed? And how was Nero able to summon it while he was getting butchered, and why is there a spirit of Sparda behind him while he’s in devil trigger mode? I would LOVE it if the 5 game explained these questions!

I would truly enjoy it if DMC 5 went all the way back to Sparda’s ascent to power. During the war between the Demons and Humans. And I wish it were a bit more magic oriented, like different spells and stuff. I really enjoy the idea of getting new weapons as well. We still havent had a scythe. I dont count Nevan as one. A darkness scythe, like Nero’s Devil Bringer it could extend and pull them in. A trident would own as well. But I think sparda should be the star of the fifth
