Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom’s mind. Devil May Cry 4 record sales of 2 million make plans all but certain

Devil May Cry 5 Xbox 360 fake boxart Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him. This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom’s fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4′s record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold*. It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying “We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available.”

To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi’s words from last year: “Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It’s totally up to them.

However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you don’t buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ‘Why didn’t I buy it?’ There’s no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. That’s the kind of game it’s going to turn out to be.”

Update May 2010: Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory has long been rumored to be working on a project in collaboration with Capcom. When Ninja Theory studio boss Tameem Antoniades was recently asked if the project was Devil May Cry 5, he said: “Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it.” But it’s a good possibility with Capcom also recently announcing that any new IPs from them would be made in-house in Japan, with Western studios being brought in to do sequels.

Would make for a nice E3 2010 announcement mid-June, don’t you think?

Dante’s Spotlight was stolen!

If they make Devil may Cry 5, don’t make it a lame dissapointment such as DMC 4… The story, just plain sucked. What was the story anyway? The same old “I have to get an evil sword to open the doors of hell!” kind of thing. That’s fine with me actually… UNTIL! I found out that the main plot was a “Save the Princess” kind of thing! “NERO?!Who the hell is Nero?! Where is Dante?!” was the first things I thought when I tried the game. And Nero is just lame… “I need more power!” freaking Vergil wannabe. Not to mention he is just lame and as cocky as Dante was at that age! Freaking Dante wannabe… AND THE WHITE HAIR?! Freaking Sparda twins wannabe! I don’t get it! We don’t need Nero! He is unnecessary! Vergil and Dante are the only sons Sparda had, no need to kick in another useless person who served no purpose from the beginning! And probably wasn’t even created before after the third game! Less pointless characters please! -_-

List of pointless and useless characters:
- Nero, with the exception that you are forced to control him till you get to Dante.
- Kyrie, … Useless princess in need of rescue who apparently has troubles speaking too! (Honestly she doesnt speak much.)
- Kyrie’s Bro, if Kyrie was useless he gotta be as useless as her and he was just there as cannonfodder anyways.

CUT THEM OUT!

The only reason I would want to see a pixel of Nero’s face in Devil May Cry 5, is if he was covered in wounds, stained with blood, to weak to fight, and in the end recieves a death blow from an unknown person OR Dante for all I care. If Nero dies, I would actually like that story. It would be dramatic and stuff! And that’s cool! I have also considered Dante’s death as a possibility to a story twist, that would be awesome. BUT SO SAD!!!

OMG!!!! I HATE YOU PPL SOOOOO BAD!!! DEVIL MAY CRY 4 FREAKIN ROCKED!!!!OK, SO MAYBE YOU DIDNT GET TO PLAY AS DANTE AS MUCH, BUT MAYBE SOME PPL LIKED PLAYING AS AN ALTERNATE CHARACTER, BESIDES, MAYBE THEY DID IT FOR A REASON, LIKE MAYBE IT WAS TO START A NEW STORY SO YOU COULD GET TO KNO NERO AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED SO YOU KNO WHAT THE SITUATION IN THE 5TH ONE IS, MAYBE NERO IS A VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTER… BESIDES, NERO WAS A BADASS… DANTE WAS JUST THE FIRST BADASS. BUT STILL, DEVIL MAY CRY 4 WAS GREAT. JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE.
AND I THINK THE WHITE HAIR IS A DEVIL THING, SO SHUT UP ABOUT THAT, YOUR JUST JEALOUS CUZ U DONT HAVE WHITE HAIR, DONT WORRY, I AM TOO…

nero was in the main storyline as a descendant of sparda, and i may have an explanation for the devil bringer too, so watch out for it
