Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom’s mind. Devil May Cry 4 record sales of 2 million make plans all but certain

Devil May Cry 5 Xbox 360 fake boxart Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him. This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom’s fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4′s record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold*. It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying “We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available.”

To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi’s words from last year: “Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It’s totally up to them.

However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you don’t buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ‘Why didn’t I buy it?’ There’s no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. That’s the kind of game it’s going to turn out to be.”

Update May 2010: Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory has long been rumored to be working on a project in collaboration with Capcom. When Ninja Theory studio boss Tameem Antoniades was recently asked if the project was Devil May Cry 5, he said: “Well, there’s no way I’m gonna confirm or deny if we’ve got anything to do with it.” But it’s a good possibility with Capcom also recently announcing that any new IPs from them would be made in-house in Japan, with Western studios being brought in to do sequels.

Would make for a nice E3 2010 announcement mid-June, don’t you think?

Nero shouldn’t be ditched, otherwise there’d be no reason in creating him in the first place. I want more styles and weapons from Nero though, I don’t care how over powered Nero’s Devil Bringer is. I like Dante how he is, just a few more weapons would be nice. Hopefully Vergil’s in this installment.

A Story behind Devil bringer, more playtime as Nero. He is a solid character who deserves more development.
Dante vs possesed Nero-Vergil? not a bad idea but it would kill off most of nero’s use as a playable character.
Vergil has had his time, Nero needs his!
New weapons of course, more finishing moves for bosses. not sure what else they can add since DMC4 was incredibly good!

I agree with your ideas but Trunksdan “more playtime as Nero” are u kiding me? Nero had his spotlight in dmc4, i wouldnt mind him being in the next dmc (well him and vergil ofc XD ) but i want dante to be the lead character + i would like after u finished the game to unlock and be able to play with characters like Trish and Lady!

I think DMC4 was ok, but what the f*ck is up with changing charecters and backtracking ? First of all Dante Shits over Nero in every way. But I have to say take a look back at Dante’s Devil Trigger Mode in the original Devil May Cry, see how he looked in Devil Trigger Mode. If it aint broke then dont fix it.The solution is easy there is only 2 ways to go. 1. When Dante is in Devil Trigger Mode, he must look like Spada (A.K.A) Legendary Dark Knight Mode.(from D.M.C 1) And Must be able to fly in Devil Trigger Mode and be able to throw electicity bolts on his enemys.( A.K.A air raid) (A.K.A Alastor Moves. And all of Ifrit Moves (A.K.A Flame, Blaze mode).
2. When Dante is in Devil Trigger Mode, he must look like Virgil from Devil May Cry3 Special Edition ( only when he is in Super Corrupt Costume). Which lookes like Spada (A.K.A Nero Angelo). But must have Ebony & Ivory Pistols, as well as The Abilities of Air Raid ,Air Vortex Summon Swords. Basically all of Dantes abilities and all of Super Corrupt Virgil abilities as well as all of his Ifrit Moves.

and…..you can also send the your story about how to make a DMC5? or else? as you can see this the last episode of DMC5?you know this the last major saga of Devil may Cry 5.
If time passes the DMC5 last chapter will be release in 2010 basicaly in october or else?
if Capcom releases in october there will be none of us to have it. It releases in only in japan….? or maybe…………Capcom unite’s the world as we do we can wish the capcom isgoing to release is as in unite in world… or else…….

DMC4 was very good…the problem is that in DMC2 Dante was so not funny and all dark with everything..no jokes or anything this to me was the biggest problem with DMC2 with me. So conutining with the DMC story is going to be hard….also…i read the 1st DMC novel written by SHIN-YA GOIKEDA and in that book Dante gets Ebony and Ivory…and the book ends at the start of game 1…..yet in DMC3 he has both guns. I wonder if Capcom if really doing there HW.
