Nintendo’s ex-President Hiroshi Yamauchi is Japan’s richest man, several game execs also make list
Japan’s 40 richest, according to Forbes, include Nintendo’s former President Hiroshi Yamauchi, who topped the list out at #1! Thanks in no small part to the hugely successful Nintendo Wii (and the continued success of the Nintendo DS). This caused the 80 year old’s net worth to more than triple. It now stands at $7.8 billion. Last year his net income rose 48% to reach USD 2.5 billion.
Yamauchi, who was succeeded by current Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, retired from Nintendo in 2005 after 55 years of service to the company, but has remained a major shareholder.
Yamauchi surpassed last year’s richest member on the list, property developer Akira Mori, who gained $2.2 billion but not enough to stay on top.
Other gaming-related people to make the list include Kagemasa Kozuki, who heads up Konami (and makes the list as one of three returning billionaires) and Keiko Erikawa, chairman emeritus of Koei (and one of only three females on the list, who shares her $720 million fortune with her husband who co-founded the company with her). — via Forbes
