I just got my 2 GB Xbox 360 the weekend after Thanksgiving 2010. As far as use, I've only played Halo Reach and GTA IV on it so far. Beat Halo, played it online a while and have about 45 hrs worth of GTA on it. I beat GTA IV a couple days ago and have just recently started playing the side missions to try to get to 100% complete. It never froze once the entire game, until after I beat it and I started playing the side missions (vigilante missions).

Now it freezes about every 5 minutes. Sometimes it will freeze for only a few seconds. Other times it will freeze for about 20 seconds. Normally while driving and switching neighborhoods but can also be totally random. Its really getting annoying so I will try some of the ideas listed above.

Well, I have had gta 4 for a while now and I even beat the game and have never had problems with this before (I was playing yesterday) and now it just started frezing during the opening cutscene and have no clue as to why this happened to me if it was working fine before.

mode (cutscenes) freezing up can be fixed by logging out of your online user account. Or by turning off the internet connection to your console, you can do this by going into network connections and disable the wireless or wired internet connection

on xbox360 or/and ps3?

Ever since I got to about 30% into GTA4 my game has been freezing. I first called Rockstar/2k and they had me go through a bunch of steps that didn’t work. After 3 weeks of trying to figure out what the problem is, they handed me over to Sony. The first time I called I told them about my problem with GTA4 they immediately transferred me to a person dedicated to this particular problem. Hmmmm……we went through the same steps with Rockstar and I was told that if it freezes again then you may need a new system. What!?!?. I told the rep from Sony that the rest of my games worked fine and GTA is the only game givining me a problem and he said that it may be a software issue. Well of course it froze again and this point I’m pissed. I replaced the hardrive, reformatted the hardrive and deleted the game data including my game save (which I backed up). After doing all of that it worked for a day then it started freezing again. I called Sony 8 or 9 times after that and every time I called I got a different story. Finally I got someone on the phone that seemed to know what he was talking about. The rep told me that the first rep I ever spoke to was right, that it is a software issue and the is NO PLANS FOR A FIRMWARE UPDATE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. The only way you will be able to play GTA4 is to send in the ps3 for repairs. The rep said that because of the way SOME of the ps3’s were made, there is a compatibility problem with GTA4 on some of these systems. So they e-mailed me a Service Request Number and shipped me a box. I sent my system in for repairs and I’m waiting to see how quickly I’m going to get my system back. So far this looks like the only way anybody is going to play GTA4 on their ps3 is to send it in for repair. It does not look like we are going to see a firmware download to fix this problem. I suggest that if your having freezing problem with GTA4 to give Sony a call. If the rep say “wait for a download then call back and keep calling to you get someone on the phone the seems like they have a clue as to what needs to be done to get your GTA4 working on your system.

I had the freezing issue on my Xbox 360. I loaded a saved game and like 1 minute after loading the saved game no matter what I did it would freeze on me and make a horrible scratching sound.

It happened probably 3 times while playing GTA IV. I would have to do a hard reboot every time it happened. I ten popped in a copy of MLB 2k8 and that froze one minute into that too. I then tried to play an Xbox Arcade game to see if anything at all worked and it froze that up too.

The next time I tried to turn on my console I had the Red Ring of Death with 3 lights. I couldn't turn my console on and I had to ship it to Microsoft where they fixed it (luckily I was still under warranty).

I got my 360 back a few days ago (it took a few weeks to repair) but now I am afraid to attempt to even play GTA IV because I don't want to get the red ring again and not be able to play my xbox for another 3 weeks!

Is there going to be a patch anytime soon?

I have a 60 gb PS3.
I have only been able to enjoy the game for 43 min. I have done all the above things.

I was thinking - none have been talking about updating the software for the ps3? Could this have any influence? and what about the mulitiplayer patch that Rockstar has released?

GL everyone.

I have a 360, and am experiencing crashes with this game as well. Very frustrating. I wrote Rockstar tonight... here is what I wrote:

"Hello,

I know you folks have been receiving lots of
complaints about this game crashing peoples consoles.
I have an Xbox 360 that I bought in 2006, and this
system has worked flawlessly, until I bought GTA IV.
Since buying the game, it has froze on me no less than
6 times, at different spots in the game. Generally,
this happens during the gameplay itself, not the
cutscenes.

Anyhow, please update me on what I should do about
this. It scares me to play the game anymore, as I fear
getting the "Red Rings of Death", as some people have
experienced!"

I hope that gets me some answers. Any help on this would be apprecitaed!
