How to unlock all Mario Kart Wii secret characters. Cheats for bikes, karts and more (guide)

Take the following steps to unlock each of the 14 secret characters in Mario Kart Wii. Wii Mario Kart cheats are listed too.

Baby Daisy: Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 50cc Cups.
Baby Luigi: Unlock eight Expert Staff Ghost Data** in Time Trials mode.
Birdo: Play 16 different courses in Time Trials mode.
Bowser Jr.: Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 100cc Retro Cups.
Daisy: Win* the 150cc Special Cup.
Diddy Kong: Successfully complete all 50cc Cups.
Dry Bones: Win the 100cc Leaf Cup.
Dry Bowser: Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 150cc Wii Cups.
Funky Kong: Unlock four Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials mode.
King Boo: Win the 50cc Star Cup
Mii (Outfit A): Win the 100cc Special Cup.
Mii (Outfit B): Unlock all 32 Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials mode.
Rosalina: Get a “One Star” rank or better in all Mirror Mode Wii-Cups. Or if you have a saved game file from Super Mario Galaxy, you should win 50 Grand Prix races.
Toadette: Play on all 32 courses in Time Trials mode or win 1,000 Wi-Fi online matches.

* Winning a Cup means getting first place.
** Expert Staff Ghost Data itself is unlocked by beating a regular staff ghost by 7 seconds. — The names of the Expert Staff Ghosts are… Luigi Circuit: Uta, Moo Moo Meadows: Tkym, Mushroom Gorge: Miki, Toad’s Factory: GQO or something, Mario Circuit: Fuyu, Coconut Mall: Mugi, DK Summit: Koz, Wario’s Gold Mine: Ryo, Daisy Circuit: Hiro, Koopa Cape: Morimo, Maple Treeway: Mugi, Grumble Volcano: Aki, Dry Dry Ruins: Akito, Moonview Highway: Koh, Bowser’s Castle: Masa, Rainbow Road: Syun1, Peach Beach: Hiro, Yoshi Falls: FJ, Ghost Valley 2: Sira, Mario Raceway: Yuuki, Sherbet Land: FJ, Shy Guy Beach: Matt, Delfino Square: Iwaco, Waluigi Stadium: Ryo, Desert Hills: Solami, Bowser Castle 3: A24, DK Jungle Parkway: Syun1, Mario Circuit GameCube: Dai8, Mario Circuit 3: Shige, Peach Gardens: Kony, DK Mountain: Miyam, and Bowser Castle 64: Kentan.

But there’s much more to be unlocked in Mario Kart Wii. The following lists show the rest of the unlockables:

Bonus bikes

Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding bikes:

* Bubble Bike (small): Win the Mirror Leaf Cup.
* Dolphin Dasher (medium): Win the Mirror Star Cup.
* Magikruiser (small): Play on eight different courses in Time Trials mode.
* Nitrocycle (medium): Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 100cc Wii Grand Prix Cups.
* Phantom (large): Win the Mirror Special Cup.
* Quacker (small): Win the 150cc Star Cup.
* Rapide (medium): Win the 100cc Lightning Cup.
* Torpedo (large): Unlock 12 Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials mode.
* Twinkle Star (large): Win the 100cc Star Cup.

Bonus karts

Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding karts:

* Aero Glider (large): Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 150cc Retro Grand Prix Cups.
* B Dasher Mk 2 (medium): Unlock 24 Expert Staff Ghosts.
* Blue Falcon (small): Win the Mirror Lightning Cup.
* Cheep Charger (small): Get a “One Star” rank or better in all 50cc Retro Grand Prix Cups.
* Dragonetti (large): Win the 150cc Lightning Cup.
* Glory (medium): Unlock 24 Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials mode.
* Piranha Prowler (large): Win the 50cc Special Cup.
* Rally Romper (small): Unlock one Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials mode.
* Royal Racer (medium): Win the 150cc Leaf Cup.
* Turbo Blooper (medium): Win the 50cc Leaf Cup.

Bonus Cups
Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding Cup:

* Star Cup: Successfully complete the Flower Cup with a trophy. You must also get a trophy in the Mushroom Cup. Win both with at least a 3rd place.
* Special Cup: Successfully complete the Star Cup with a trophy. Win with at least a 3rd place.
* Leaf Cup: Successfully complete the Banana Cup with a trophy. You must also get a trophy in the Shell Cup. Win both with at least a 3rd place.
* Lightning Cup: Successfully complete the Leaf Cup with a trophy. Win with at least a 3rd place.

Mirror mode
Win all 150cc Cups to unlock Mirror mode.

Expert ghosts
Defeat a normal course ghost with a time at least seven seconds faster to unlock the expert ghost for that course.

Alternate title screen and ending sequence
Get a “One Star” rank or better in all Cups, including those in Mirror mode to unlock an alternate title screen and ending sequence.

Special credits
Win all trophies in a class to view the credits and see a congratulations screen featuring your Mii with Mario and Peach. Win all Grand Prix Cups to get another congratulations screen featuring your Mii with all the racers.

Quick start
When the countdown starts, wait until the “2″ begins to disappear, then hold 2 to get a boost at the start of the race.

Quick recovery
When you fall into an obstacle, press 2 precisely when you land to get a temporary boost.

Profile name stars
You can add a star next to your profile name on the results screen and the Wi-Fi races by completing all Grand Prix races with a certain rank:

* One star profile name: Earn a “One Star” rank in all Grand Prix races.
* Two star profile name: Earn a “Two Star” rank in all Grand Prix races.
* Three star profile name: Earn a “Three Star” rank in all Grand Prix races.

OK - dumb question… do you have to win all of these as a single player or can a team play unlock these? My two boys have been playing for months, and it seems like they are winning trophies but not unlocking much. They have unlocked Rosalina, the super blooper kart and the tiny tram.

i got all the characters and most of the bikes except one of the mediums. but when i see that video it seems as if a few of the bikes i have aren’t the ones in teh video. I got a one star or better in all the cups and i see no alternate opening screen.

How do i tell how many staff ghosts I unlocked so far? I wanna say at least 12 but is there a way to find out?

Hey wonder if anyone can answer this…

I was racing on wi-fi the other nite on rainbow road and the whole way through the race I was in 2nd place. The person in front of me was always in my view but they kept falling off. Thing is almost instantly they were back on my screen in front of me. Ususally because of the time it takes to get put back on the track you can overtake, but the gap between us was always the same???

Really confused me. Is this some sort of recovery cheat? I know about the one for instant boosts etc but this is the first time I’ve seen this.

Hope someone can answer

Lukas, you have to get first place in the points for every group, ie. star, flower, mushroom, etc.

p.s. i thought we won all 150cc cups but we didn’t.
