Grand Theft Auto 5 release date expected in fall 2012

To quote investment banker Wedbush Morgan Securities’ game industry analysts Michael Pachter: “I actually think they already have a story in mind. GTA5 is already in the planning stage and my guess is you’ll see [the next GTA] in two and a half years. In fall of 2010, there’ll be Grand Theft Auto 5.”

Below we show you a timeline that leads to the expected release date of Fall 2012.

January 2009 update: After rumors circulating on the internet, Rockstar confirmed that there would be no GTA5 in 2009. While most companies don’t respond to rumors, Rockstar probably thought it would damage sales of their two upcoming GTA4 downloadable episodes (the 1st in February, the 2nd in October), which they are still working on. As a result 2010 is looking more logical for GTA5.

September 2009 update: During GTA publisher Take-Two’s Q3 2009 earnings call, chairman Strauss Zelnick denied GTA5 by — ironically — talking about GTA5. To quote: “We’re not going to announce it. We’re not going to announce when we’re going to announce it. And we’re not going to announce the strategy about announcing it or about when we’re going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy. Any other questions?”

Piper Jaffray’s Anthony Gikas weighs in on the release date and thinks GTA5 will be out sometime between November 2010 – October 2011. To quote: “Our confidence in the company’s profitability profile is improving as product flow for FY 2010 is greatly improved and Grand Theft Auto V is expected in FY ‘11.”

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter claimed: “While we still expect a GTA game in calendar 2010, it is not clear that the game will be released before the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year ending October 31, 2010.”

Grand Theft Auto 5 location hint October 2009 update: On page 17 of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City’s game manual, Rockstar gives a teaser where the next GTA game might be. Up until now it was most likely Grand Theft Auto V: Vice City. Which is a guess, because at the end of Grand Theft Auto IV, Niko’s plane ticket says “Vice City”. And this teaser image (scan shown below) — which also appears on a billboard near Star Junction, next to Liberty City’s Seagull — says “Liberty City, It’s Over! Next Stop. Theatre Seagull” with a hint we’ll find out more in March 2010. Meaning the new “Theatre Seagull” location could be opening up anywhere that has the mountains and beaches shown in that location depiction; Any place from England, France, San Andreas to Seattle and beyond. Where do you want to see the next GTA take place?

November 2009 update: GTA series producer/writer/voice artist Dan Houser had an interview with The Times London newspaper about the next GTA game. To quote the article: “There’s a Western game in the works for next spring, and the next GTA to think of. ‘We’ll think of a city first, then the characters,’ says Houser. The script he will end up co-writing will run to around 1,000 pages, nearly ten times as much as a feature film.”

December 2010 update: Clearly a quick turnaround analysts promised us for the next GTA game didn’t happen. Instead a Fall 2011 release for GTA5 is much more likely. In the end, an extra year of development will make sure the game will be higher quality and more fun to play.

April 2011 update: The latest rumors see Grand Theft Auto 5 coming to Wii 2 alongside Xbox 360 and PS3 in fall 2012. Since that’s when the Wii 2 is said to launch, the story here being that GTA5 would be a launch game.

October 2011 update: Rockstar Games has officially confirmed Grand Theft Auto 5 on October 25th. They are promising us the first “Grand Theft Auto Five” trailer will be shown on rockstargames.com on November 2nd, 2011.

Release Date Hint from Rockstar?: One of our readers Anders_L points out that in the trailer scene where the person is nailing a “For Sale” sign into the ground, if you look at the curbed number sign to your lower right, it says: “2405″ — a possible release date of 2012-24-05 or May 24th, 2012?

some things wat i think would be kool 4 the next gta.

when were playing gta we all get a bit naughty nd get the cops on us. so i think it would be kool if when they r looking 4 us we could kill them silantly wiv out all the other cops knowing nd finding out where we r. nd we could kill people or nok em out nd take there clouths.

And they could make a high skool that u could go 2 nd start fights when ur bord nd av a mission where u get 2 go nd kid nap a kid nd i a later mission there could be a ransome involving the kid nd the kids parants it would also be kool if the kid was a young lady like grasie in gta iv.

nd they could have a football stadiam nd 4 a kool mission u could snipe someone at a match.

Nd if it was in london witch i think will be kool there could be a massiv shootout in big ben.

This is a lst of things that i really think gta 5 should have

1.Graphics
-the clothes on people should look more realistic.
-the inside of cars should look more realistic.

2.safehouse
-our safehouse house should be more interactable like sitting down on the couch,turning lights on or off,and ect.
-buyable houses like old house,regular house,big house,mansion,larger mansions,old apartment,regular apartment,nice apartment,and condo”s.
-PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!let us customize our house with tv’s,beds,
couches,rugs & carpets,fish tanks,wallpaper,video game systems.
computers,tables,chairs,kitchen things,bathroom things,bed room things,and more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.Protaginist
-PLEASE!!!PLEASE!!!let us create our own character this time.
-we should be able to choose their gender,age,height,race,voice,eye color,and ect.

4.realism
-Pedestrians had been place fillers in all the gta games.this time they should be people with real lives like going to work,going to stores,going to entertainment spots,pull in their drive way and go into their house,have bbq at home,and more!!!!!
-Also im get tired of living by myself at my safehouse.we were able to go on dates,but know we should be able to have wives or husbands.
-this is how it should work,on the map their could be a people section that tells us what type of people we can meet and date with.
it should have a map of girls and a map of boys.a status of how well the person likes us should be in the status section.if we don’t visit for a while then the status should drop and if it goes to 0 the person should call the protaganist and dunmp them.if we go out with them a lot and the status is 100% then we should have the option to get married.
-i know this has nothing to do with gta but i really think we should be able to have sex and kids.we should be able to choose their age[1 to 100],height,gender,and ect in the option menu.

-this time tv should have more shows and new channles like horor channle,cartoon channle,cnt,weazle,sports channle,metv,and more!!

-movie theaters

-theme parks[ride rides or cause caos!]

7.stores
-i strongly think that all stores should be accessible.it would be great to be able to do that!!!!!

8.car customization
-bring back everything from san andreas.
-customize inside of cars.

9.mini games
-we should be able to buy games from game stores and play arcade games.
-maybe it would be cool if their was also a republican space rangers game.

10.SETTING/others
GTA 5 should definatly be set in san andreas,vice ciy,and liberty city.
-we should be able to travle from place to place by airplane.
-also we should be able to check into hotels and take vacation.the hotel could be used just like the safehouse.
-freeway should be longer and have rest stops.they should have more signs.the speed limit should also be 65.
-if this game does not take place in the three of these places,it should take place in san andreas.
I am a HUGE fan of gta.i these wishes make it to gta 5!!!!!!!

If you take a look to Just Cause 2, you’ll see how BIG that is.
You really need an airplane to come far away.
If you take a boat, you’re sailing like 10 minutes before reaching land.

With GTA 4 you take a car, within 10 minutes you’ve driven from east to west.

So, i prefer a very BIG BIG BIG gta 5

the main thing gta5 needs is loads more interactivity with the enviroment and more realism with physics etc, also something which i beleive would be big advantage is for the game area to be huge a good example is just cause 2 but id suggest making it even bigger still, but sayin all that whatever happens im 100% sure rockstar wont fail the game will be an instant smash, roll on GRAN THEFT AUTO 5, WOOP WOOP
