The latest edition of Gametrailers’ Bonus Round discussed Grand Theft Auto 4, its Xbox 360-exclusive expansions, and Grand Theft Auto 5’s release date. You can watch the episode below.
To quote investment banker Wedbush Morgan Securities’ game industry analysts Michael Pachter: “I actually think they already have a story in mind. GTA5 is already in the planning stage and my guess is you’ll see [the next GTA] in two and a half years. In fall of 2010, there’ll be Grand Theft Auto 5.”
This last Grand Theft Auto Bonus Round episode discusses whether or not the release of GTA4 on April 29th will be the fall of GTA as a series or if Rockstar will reach new heights?

January 2009 update: After rumors circulating on the internet, Rockstar confirmed that there would be no GTA5 in 2009. While most companies don’t respond to rumors, Rockstar probably thought it would damage sales of their two upcoming GTA4 downloadable episodes (the 1st in February, the 2nd in October), which they are still working on. As a result 2010 is looking more logical for GTA5.
September 2009 update: During GTA publisher Take-Two’s Q3 2009 earnings call, chairman Strauss Zelnick denied GTA5 by — ironically — talking about GTA5. To quote: “We’re not going to announce it. We’re not going to announce when we’re going to announce it. And we’re not going to announce the strategy about announcing it or about when we’re going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy. Any other questions?”
Piper Jaffray’s Anthony Gikas weighs in on the release date and thinks GTA5 will be out sometime between November 2010 - October 2011. To quote: “Our confidence in the company’s profitability profile is improving as product flow for FY 2010 is greatly improved and Grand Theft Auto V is expected in FY ‘11.”
I am glad i am hearing this. I think rockstar owes us another GTA that is longer. I love the new graphics but they take up half the space so they cant make a 120+ mission game. I hope they find a way to remedy this. IV was kinda like GTA 3 but better, they added many of the things you were able to do in VC and SA (helicopters, boats, cell phone, motorcycles, etc.). Nice addition to the game but please Rockstar make the next one longer. I just finished The story of the IV game and im only at 64% progress, all the rest is shooting flying rats (hidden packages) and doing menial missions. Although i would rather play rampages and shoot em ups in the new one, i love the additions to the gun play and realism. Make next one’s story longer than half the game.
I like all thee b*tches in that game. They need more hoes in the new one during the whole game even when on missions!!!!!!!!!!!!
i want to say that there was not areoplane in grand theft auto 4 so put that on the next one and more missions i finished the game 35 hours and four of 35 hour i did not any mission make the story more longer please
and real cars not made up ones
add jetpack and gym and you can make a company to if you want
This is how the GTA games were released
1 Liberty city
2 Vice City
3 San Andreas
4Liberty City Stories, but what came after that
5 Vice City Stories
6 GTA 4 took place in Liberty City
GTA 5 will take place in ________?
ANSWER is Vice City
hi there everyone i just completed gta iv and thuoght it was good but the story mission cuold had have more variety to it and story needs to be longer anyway wat was the ending about it wasnt conclusive enough may be it continues with the gta iv downloadable content anyway cant wait 4 that and cant wait for the next gta game
yea it needs to be in more detailed vice city (or Miami). And add in places like tampa bay or something like that like they did with New Jersey. If 4 was like this, then i know 5 will be worth it waiting for
Rockstar should quit Thq has it now
Ummm… they dont want to use real cities in their games, thats why they dont use real life sites. Liscencing and censorship laws would make these games impossible to get by ratings if they used real cities. think before you post trash like that.
