Did you know? That Mr. Driller (AKA Susumu Hori), is actually the son of the famed Dig Dug (AKA Taizou Hori). That’s why the gameplay of Mr. Driller games is usually described as “Dig Dug meets Tetris.”

The popular Mr. Driller series makes its debut on Xbox Live Arcade! Featuring an addictive single player mode, Online VS. play, simple controls and deep gameplay. For players of all ages and skill levels. This game requires the Xbox 360 hard drive or the 512MB Memory Unit for storage.

Warning update: Some Xbox Live users are reporting Mr. Driller Online is freezing up in single player and are experiencing online multiplayer with lag. It might be best to just try the demo and wait for official word on a fix for these issues.

Key game features include:
* Classic arcade action: All the drilling action you remember from the original arcade game is faithfully recreated in the Xbox LIVE version, with colorful graphics and challenging gameplay. Play the single-player Standard Driller or Quest Driller modes and keep up your air supply.
* Online modes: Take the game online with the split-screen Solo Battle, or try out the team-based Tag Battle.
* Accessible play: Simple controls and deep gameplay make for an addictive gaming experience, suitable for players of all ages and skill levels.

There’s also an Army of Two demo that became available for download yesterday (wordwide, except in Germany) along with the forever free Rock Band song Still Alive (you know, the Portal ending soundtrack).

Awesome! I’ve always wanted to play one of these games and never have. This will probably be the version to get then. :)

Well not really, I updated the article yesterday to reveal some serious bugs in the game. I’d stay away until they patch it.
