Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai talked about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel at the Game Developers Conference 2008. It’s interesting to hear him say certain features like voice chat were left out because of Wii limitations, but that there were more not included features he thought about added, which he’d like to put in a sequel. What follows are the relevant interview quotes:

Question: What would be that one specific feature you wish you could have added?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about when — I mean if — another game was to come out in the series and so I’d like to keep a lid on that for now. and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.

Question: Have you done everything you can do with the Smash Bros. franchise now? In other words, can Wii owners look forward to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl sequel in the future?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: Well, the series has already had three iterations so I cannot say with one-hundred percent confidence that there won’t be any additional Smash Bros. games ever. But, at the same time I’d really like to note that I feel like with Brawl there are already so many modes and so much to do that it’s really hard to exhaust what you can do with this game. I’m really against the idea of merely creating a sequel that would add modes or increase the number of characters in the roster — all the sort of things that just simply fatten up the game. I’d like to avoid just doing that if a sequel ever came out.

just don’t make it another crappy story like in Brawl

Sure, it was a nice idea and a little cool, but it was nothing to what it could be. The chapters of that story were very random and in truth, didn’t make much sense to any plot at all.

And don’t put stupid characters like ROB in there. Sonic and Snake were good for boost in popularity but are don’t keep with the origional fun game play. Super Smash Bros. was origionally our favorite Nintendo characters in silly fighting antics and now…its gotten, umm..off track? It seems now like it is getting to be more like a real fighting game and not the fun cartoons we used to like. Take out the amazing super smash ball, and that weird plane thing…yea its kind of cool but it doesn’t spark anything other than a cool looking attack.

Make better storys, make them make sense, and go back to our fun and goofy cartoon buddies we all grew up with, oh and uhh boost the stage builder. Its alot of fun, but there isn’t enough backgrounds, items, etc…you know what Im getting at

God man, dont hate. To me, the game is the best of any game ever made. Its my opinion so say what you want. If you are reading this Sakurai, I hope you consider making a new super smash bros. Call it Super Smash Bros Legends. You have no idea how many people you are making happier.

Many characters I want. Like 40 or 50 of them. But what i would like to do is fix Falco’s weight, his jumps, and his reflector. When i played SSBB, Falco was completely JACKED UP, because i compared him with Fox and what i realized was that Fox has higher jumps than Falco. Fox had his first jump low, second high, and third high, and Falco has his first jump high, second low, and third low. Falco’s weight was also heavier in SSBM than in SSBB. And now, his reflector you have to activate it repeatedly. Instead he should just kick the reflector and then when it comes back to him, he keeps it.

I would like all the sonic charecters like shadow,tails,knuckles and silver.People wold like this so much if there either a sonic fan or like super smash bros.brawl.I know i will.

they should really fix the story mode and i think Taboo was retarded.

I agree with Super Sonic. I was so disappointed when Shadow was only an assist Trophy. I agree with the statement that the story needs work.
Some of the character I want in a sequel are

Cloud Strife (HE WOULD BE AWESOME!)
Vincent Valentine (HE WOULD ALSO BE AWESOME!)
Mewtwo (THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE LEFT HIM OUT!)
