Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai talked about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel at the Game Developers Conference 2008. It’s interesting to hear him say certain features like voice chat were left out because of Wii limitations, but that there were more not included features he thought about added, which he’d like to put in a sequel. What follows are the relevant interview quotes:

Question: What would be that one specific feature you wish you could have added?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about when — I mean if — another game was to come out in the series and so I’d like to keep a lid on that for now. and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.

Question: Have you done everything you can do with the Smash Bros. franchise now? In other words, can Wii owners look forward to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl sequel in the future?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: Well, the series has already had three iterations so I cannot say with one-hundred percent confidence that there won’t be any additional Smash Bros. games ever. But, at the same time I’d really like to note that I feel like with Brawl there are already so many modes and so much to do that it’s really hard to exhaust what you can do with this game. I’m really against the idea of merely creating a sequel that would add modes or increase the number of characters in the roster — all the sort of things that just simply fatten up the game. I’d like to avoid just doing that if a sequel ever came out.

have u all ever wondered why nintendo hasn’t decided to come out with a ds version of smash bros yet… now the create a smash character idea is cool but just tell all the others about it, so they won’t repeat their selves, im mean… it just makes trouble. but wouldn’t it be alswome to have a portable version of smash bros. u could have the cac on their and transfer it over to the new brawl game, u know

I think you should put Eggman from sonic in it his special move could be the machines and robots

if u take out rob or bowser i would nt buy the game because the game is awsm because it has so many different ppl. Just because u dnt no good characters wen u see them u shouldnt want to take them out u tool

I have mastered all 35 characters and ROB has to be the worst idea for a character and probably the worst character yet (or is the worst Yoshi?)… Why not put krystal or someone else who actualy has a name for themselves and would boost the game’s sales…

Would sound better as an assist trophy.

If they think that adding more characters into the game is just fattening it up, they are wrong, because implating Sonic and Snake into the game just fattened up their pockets. Limit the game to 40 characters and make sure that the characters they put in are not like ROB (Unknown and fail.) Get very popular people such as Krystal (lol you should have seen how pissed people were when they found out that she had been replaced by ROB), Knuckels etc.
