Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai talked about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel at the Game Developers Conference 2008. It’s interesting to hear him say certain features like voice chat were left out because of Wii limitations, but that there were more not included features he thought about added, which he’d like to put in a sequel. What follows are the relevant interview quotes:

Question: What would be that one specific feature you wish you could have added?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about when — I mean if — another game was to come out in the series and so I’d like to keep a lid on that for now. and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.

Question: Have you done everything you can do with the Smash Bros. franchise now? In other words, can Wii owners look forward to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl sequel in the future?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: Well, the series has already had three iterations so I cannot say with one-hundred percent confidence that there won’t be any additional Smash Bros. games ever. But, at the same time I’d really like to note that I feel like with Brawl there are already so many modes and so much to do that it’s really hard to exhaust what you can do with this game. I’m really against the idea of merely creating a sequel that would add modes or increase the number of characters in the roster — all the sort of things that just simply fatten up the game. I’d like to avoid just doing that if a sequel ever came out.

How come Masahiro Sakurai is against creating a sequal to SSBB??? All everyone really wants is to add more characters and more interesting levels(lands). Of course you can still add a cool new story but who really cares if all they did was fatten the game up?!? I know thats what I want! Fatten the game up as much as possible! and then when they make a sequel… FATTEN IT UP EVEN MORE!!! Masahiro Sakurai makes it sound like SSBB has been done and nothing else can happen to make it better. Well Nintendo has like thousands to millions of characters and games… Thats what I call an improvement!!!

am really startin to hate the creater cause i love this game so much i dream about it and am dam 18 for cryin out loud and i have 12 other friends who feel the same and hes jus goin to stop at 3 T_T please please Masahir Sakurai this the only game i play i buy the wii jus for this game so if you get this dont stop on us now please

i hope they add shadow, knuckles and roy in the new brawl it would get more gamers to play the smash series they should add blazeken in it too and add more people in the earthbound/mother series to the new brawl too

They should make a sequel. New characters: shadow, knuckles, skull kid, boo, koopa, midna, vaati, mii, toon zelda, and armor zelda(Spirit Tracks)

they also need to personalize wolf’s and falco’s final smash… and maybe drop some characters too… i mean do we really need to carry over mr game and watch and jigglypuff? let’s add some golden sun characters and maybe even waluigi. and also a mario galaxy stage.
