Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel in the head of series creator Masahiro Sakurai

Super Smash Bros. Brawl for WiiSuper Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai talked about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel at the Game Developers Conference 2008. It’s interesting to hear him say certain features like voice chat were left out because of Wii limitations, but that there were more not included features he thought about added, which he’d like to put in a sequel. What follows are the relevant interview quotes:

Question: What would be that one specific feature you wish you could have added?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about when — I mean if — another game was to come out in the series and so I’d like to keep a lid on that for now. and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.

Question: Have you done everything you can do with the Smash Bros. franchise now? In other words, can Wii owners look forward to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl sequel in the future?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: Well, the series has already had three iterations so I cannot say with one-hundred percent confidence that there won’t be any additional Smash Bros. games ever. But, at the same time I’d really like to note that I feel like with Brawl there are already so many modes and so much to do that it’s really hard to exhaust what you can do with this game. I’m really against the idea of merely creating a sequel that would add modes or increase the number of characters in the roster — all the sort of things that just simply fatten up the game. I’d like to avoid just doing that if a sequel ever came out.

Seriously, more fire emblem characters needs to be in it. Just 2. please. And like i said desparately needs more female characters. If I find out Lyns in it I will immediatly buy the game

I agree. There needs to be more Fire Emblem characters like Ranulf,Greil,Sothe,Micaiah and Tormod. I think it would be cool if Ranulf was in the sequel, because wouldn’t it be cool to play as someone who can transform into a beast?

Hmmm… I couldn’t help butnotice several of you hating on Jigglypuff… Well I would really want to see her back; she is one of my favorite characters, but if she comes back hopefully they’ll make her “down+B” ability be more lethal again like in Melee. It is a move I had worked hard to master using, and I was dissapointed to find it was not quite as effective in Brawl, although I do admit I liked the challenge of beating the higher difficulty modes that cane with not having that trump card…

I cannot think of any characters I want to see removed, although I am certain that they will remove some, as they have before. Well here are my other favorite characters that I would like to see on future rosters:
Captain Olimar
Lucario
Pikachu
Ganondorf
R.O.B.
Sonic
Bowser

Hmmm… I’ve thought many times on what newcomers should join the roster of the next game, and here are some I believe would make interesting new fighters who all bring something different and possibly unique to the battles:

Paper Mario-he can use his hammer, use partners that can be interchangable much like pokemon trainer and pikmin, and his final smash summons the power of the Seven Star Spirits.

Boo-He is a lightweight character who is an expert at dodging and counter attacks, he can float much like Peach and Pit, and his final smash summons a horde of Boos that fuse with him to create an Atomic Boo who can be controlled much like Giga Bowser.

Majoras Mask-this character would be much like Pokemon Trainer in that you have the freedom to alternate between his three forms:
1-lightweight, floats, uses eye lasers and can use it’s spin attack.
2-middleweight, moves extremely fast, uses close range attacks like punches and kicks, can jump high from the ground but not very high midair jumps.
3-heavyweight, moves more like Ike, uses a combination of close and long range attacks, uses his whip to attack and grab ledges, uses eye lasers, uses powerful close combat attacks.
Final Snash-Can only be used next to an opponent, Majoras Mask attatches itself to the face of that character allowing the controller of the mask temperary control over that character, and then he/she must do a certain amount of damage to other characters combined, which if accomplished, Majoras Mask deattatches itself and then the Moon appears and KOs all opponents on the stage. This is good because it gives the player an opportunity to knock out opponents at least once before the Moon appears to do that again.

Dr. Eggman-a heavyweight character that always starts battles in only his personal hovercraft, which floats him around battlefields. However, he is no faster than Ganondorf, and despite being heavyweight, he is easy to send flying off of the stage. He has unlimited flying ability, but his only attacks are very weak lasers that don’t cause flinching, and a pair of feeble robotic arms that can grab and punch, but deal minor damage. Instead, he must wait until a smash ball appears and take it to use his best abilities. Once he has been endowed with the strength of the smash ball, he can call upon one of four robotic bodies to use which don’t vanish after a set amount of time, but instead each has 300% damage that must be reduced to 0% in order to destroy the body and leave Eggman vulnerable again. Eggman himself cannot be damaged in these bodies, but strong enough attacks can cause the machine to flinch or be buffeted. Each has different advantages and disadvantages depending on both the stage and the current opponents, and each is called on by pressing “B”, “Side+B”, “Down+B”, and “Up+B”, respectively:
Egg Launcher-A hull and canmon with 90 degree vertical aim range mounted on two short legs, but it can jump well from the ground, but not well in the air. It can be damaged at any body part. It moves at average speed. By itself it can fire cannonballs that travel in a straight path until hitting an wall, floor or fighter. It can also suck in nearby items and fire them for a devastationg blast, or it can suck up a fighter and fire them off the stage, or into walls, floors and other fighters to deal up to 50% damage. It’s only recovery jump is a downward aimed blast which only fires once and doesnot give a large boost.
Egg Walker-A hull mounted between four massive, long legs. Its legs are invulnerable, so the hull must be attacked. It moves at average speed and has no jumping ability, but it can simply reach for and climb platforms with it’s long legs. It has no long range attacks, but can stomp on opponents, or it can use it’s legs to swat at opponents in front of or behind it, or it can drop bombs directly below it, which detonate after 5 seconds or after being touched by an opponent.
Egg Trapper-A small craft with no legs, it moves about laterally on wheels, and at high speeds. It has spikes surrounding its body and can only be damaged by long range attacks. It has no jumping ability, but it can attept a recovery by extending a grappling arm. It attacks primarily by punching, smacking, grabbing, and thhrowing with it’s one rear mounted grappling arm. However, it can lay several adhesive traps across the stage, by laying them where it has been. These will render victims immoble until some force damages them. The trap dissapear individually after fighters are freed from them. It can also fire out it’s body spikesto deal heavy damage, but this will leave the body vulnerable to close range attacks. The spikes can then be picked up and used as weapons by anyone, and Eggman use the grappling arm to reattatch them to his hull.
Egg Hurricane-a massive cloudlike body with no appendages that moves very slowly laterally above the stage. It can be damaged at any body part. Its attacks all drop damaging forces downward onto the stage. It drops bombs that detonate upon hitting any object, it can fire downward lasers that travel through platforms, it can shoot cold jets downward to freeze opponents, and most notably it has a downward shooting giga laser that must be charged like Samus’ cannon. To defeat it, one must avoid it’s slow attacks and send strikes upward at it’s bottom unto it is destroyed.
Destroying any of these hulls gives Eggman and other fighters 3 seconds to clear the area before resulting in a powerful explosion.

Wow… That was long… I’m a tad bit tired from that… Okay I’m done for right now if I can think of more ill add them later, but now… Hahaha… Phew… So whaddya think of it? I’m sorry, I didn’t expect my Eggman idea to be so complex, it just came to me as I was typing this so… Haha… Yeah…
Ciao fer now… :D

Jigglypuff to me is just useless from the start. I would like if jigglypuff is replaced by someone like raichu.

Yeah. It would be aweasome if ranulf was in the sequel and transform to a beast. For the others, they should be the way they look when they have not promoted.

what about Spectrobes? If I was the one making ssbb2 i would make the spectrobes like the Pokemon trainer. also, make more poke balls and assist trophies.

silver. SILVER!!!! silvers my fav character from sonic.

If anybody from sonic is coming I would like if knuckles, shadows, or Amy come.

Hmmm. No more sonic characters. They’re weak. Every attack is just them rolling. Wow so exciting.
We need Someone like Birdo
B-Charges up an egg to spit.
B-up- Does a yoshi like jump but higher and kicks foes
B-side-Yoshies side move but pink
B-down- sucks in air like a vaccume and spits characters away(no damage but good for getting to a smash ball, becauseif she hits a smash ball with an enemy, she gets her fs)
She’d be a fast low jumping character that is hard to knock off, but attacks are somewhat weak if not timed right.
FS- a bunch of pixelated birdos from super mario 2 come out and spit eggs at people.

Eggsecute
(like olimar)
B-confusion
B-Side- Barage(throws its heads at enemys
B down- Gathers and bumps into enemys to cause damage if they’re in the way
B-up- they send one up with psycic and then automatically gather.
A rather fast character with suprisingly high jumps. Knocked off easily, powerful attacks.
FS- Uses psycic power to bunch nearby characters up, and frequently bombs them with egg bomb.

If they do make a new SSBB, I think they should bring back characters from SSBM like Roy and so on. I also think they should get rid of R.O.B (WTF?) and add new characters like megaman. In my opinion, I think they shoud add Sora from Kingdom Hearts because the new games are nintendo and he already has different colors to choose from. He would use his keyblade to attack and I think they should just get rid of smash balls, but if they didn’t, he should get his two keyblades and do something like wario or bowser’s final smashes. Just my opinion though. It would also be cool if they added cloud from ff7 and Noctis from ff13 versus (he’s kick ass).^^ I love ff & kh
