Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel in the head of series creator Masahiro Sakurai

Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai talked about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 sequel at the Game Developers Conference 2008. It’s interesting to hear him say certain features like voice chat were left out because of Wii limitations, but that there were more not included features he thought about added, which he’d like to put in a sequel. What follows are the relevant interview quotes:

Question: What would be that one specific feature you wish you could have added?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: I feel like anything I’ve considered I’m probably going to think about when — I mean if — another game was to come out in the series and so I’d like to keep a lid on that for now. and not disclose anything I’ve been thinking about there.

Question: Have you done everything you can do with the Smash Bros. franchise now? In other words, can Wii owners look forward to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl sequel in the future?
Masahiro Sakurai answers: Well, the series has already had three iterations so I cannot say with one-hundred percent confidence that there won’t be any additional Smash Bros. games ever. But, at the same time I’d really like to note that I feel like with Brawl there are already so many modes and so much to do that it’s really hard to exhaust what you can do with this game. I’m really against the idea of merely creating a sequel that would add modes or increase the number of characters in the roster — all the sort of things that just simply fatten up the game. I’d like to avoid just doing that if a sequel ever came out.

Improvements in Brawl 2

•All Characters have their normal costumes but one extra costume with out color change.

•There should be two Smash Balls in Brawl 2. The first one should look the normal Smash Ball. The second one is Black & White, this should improve a charters final smash or they have a second Final Smash when they get the Black & White one.

•You should be able to add to your friends list from people you meet online.

•Online play against non-friends should have settings/improvements (Stock lives, Names, Play on custom levels).

•When in stage builder mode you should have cooler backgrounds like the one on Final Destination.

•There should be one normal costume that you can change the color.

•Get rid of the sticker collection it takes up to much Data.

•Add Final Smash clashes

•Add Race to the finish

If Super Smash Bros. Brawl 2 is gonna be made please take some of these ideas into consideration

I usually don’t comment, but WOW. Giovanni, your suggestions are terrible. We are not going to get anime characters in SSB, much less multiple ones.

Removing key Nintendo characters such as Peach to add in obscure anime ones from your favorite animes? Go play Jump Allstars or Mugen, we don’t want lame third party characters in SSB.

I dont think they should drop any characters because they all have their ups and downs but maybe give them new attacks and final smashes. As far as adding anyone, i dont think anime characters would work and i really think some of the old characters from melee should come back such as Dr. Mario and Mewtwo. Everything else is perfect.

First of all I think mewtwo NEEDS to come back becouse he has way better moves then Lucario.Second,anime chars are not bad at all its just they are to powerful for a smash brothers game great ideas though Giovanni.Third i think the chars fox,wolf,falco,zel da,Sheik,needs different smash moves.

me and others think they should drop olimar, ice climbers, jigguly puff, king dede, peach, lucas, Then i think they should keep every one else and add Roy, knuckles, shadow, raiden, riachu, gary as a pokemon trianer with chimpchar grovile and blastoise, that one little puppet thing from little big plant, dry bones, a ninja turtle, goku, and vegeta, ben 10, spongebob, thats all.
