The following Bungie developer interview notes are a summary of everything Halo 4 the company talked about or what was hinted at. We dubbed it “The Secret Files” that puts one and one together. Every Halo fan obviously knows the (original) Halo trilogy is over (Halo 3 was left with an open ending). But with Ensemble Studios working on the Halo Wars RTS prequel and an episodic Halo: Chronicles cinematic-game trilogy series still in the works by Peter Jackson, would a Halo 4 FPS really be that far fetched? Time to line up the facts…
July 14th 2006: Bungie audio director, Marty O’Donnell, said at the UK Game Developers Conference that “We all want Halo to be the great ending to an epic trilogy. We look at what Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Rings films – which each film bettering the previous one and that is what we are aiming for.”
September 25th 2007: At the launch of Halo 3 the cinematic designer, Lee Wilson, said “There’s a lot of people who have been working on Halo much longer than us two have and they’re really interested in exploring new games, new stories, and whatever comes out of those conversations is what we’re going to pursue. We’re still going to make games for us.” And Joe Tung, multiplayer producer, said that the team was “figuring out right now what we’re working on next. We really don’t know what that is yet but as soon as we know, everyone else will know. Halo 4 is not in development.”
October 8th 2007: Halo movie director, Neill Blomkamp, confirmed that the Halo “film is entirely dead,” but consoled fans of the series by mentioning that “Well, we are already at work on another Halo game — I wouldn’t call it ‘Halo 4′, but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.”
November 9th 2007: Bungie studio manager, Harold Ryan, mentioned that “Obviously Microsoft wanted us to make more Halo games. Both I and some of the more senior guys from the original Halo game have deep piles of game designs for the Halo universe that we are excited to build at some point. If the stars align and motivations are good and the platforms are right we’ll do them.”
March 2008: Bungie are still supporting the Xbox 360-exclusive Halo 3 with new map packs, as well as the above mentioned two Halo game spin-offs that are set for tentative Q4 2008 releases. It does look like they want to take a break from the series, which might be part of the reason why Bungie became independent from Microsoft. But since money makes the world ago around, and of course fans do want more, it’s doubtful Microsoft or Bungie will want to give up on the Halo series that as of October 4th, 2007, combined sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Perhaps by the time the Xbox 720 launches in 2011-2012 we’ll hear about Master Chief’s comeback in Halo 4.
Microsoft’s Vice President of Xbox 360, Games for Windows and Live services, Don Mattrick, confirmed that Bungie is working on “a new Halo game” of some sort for Xbox 360. The initial announcement for this Bungie-developed title was first cancelled at E3. Especially after Bungie recently showed a Halo Interactive Strategy Board Game, which showed they themselves are branching out Halo from the FPS genre too, like Microsoft Game Studios’ already announced RTS and movie-experience Halo projects. Eventually Bungie.net announced this new Halo 3: Keep It Clean campaign expansion pack on September 25th, 2008, the one-year anniversary of Halo 3.
Updated for September 2008: New word on the street suggests that Gearbox Software (of Brothers in Arms series fame) and Microsoft Game Studios (the owner of the Halo IP) are hiring new staff for a possible Halo 4 due for the Xbox 720. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford exclaimed the project was “look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big”. Later Corrinne Yu, Director of Technology of Gearbox Software, left the company to join Microsoft as the Principle (Lead) Engine Architect of Halo Franchise Team in order to “lead the team to build the engines and games for future Halo’s on Xbox’es and PC’s at Microsoft.” At the same time Microsoft put out this job description: “Microsoft’s new Halo Studio team is looking for a technical and highly talented program manager to work an engineering team to help define the next generation of gaming software technology. As part of the next generation team, you’ll be instrumental in helping to lead the development of the engine that will power future experiences for the next generation of gaming platforms. You will work closely with the software architect and the senior development team behind this critical new effort.”

well actually isnt there 20+ other halos?? and urface you know you can beat this game on legendary in 6 hours right lol its not that hard. i think its good they made it into a cliff hanger but bungie already said marathon which came out long before was the 4th game were you had a guy wearing spartin armor on a space ship and base that is why master chief is alone in that game. plus what if they made one for the next xbox as a launch game for 2012 that would make people buy it dont you think and the begining of the game shows master cheif being knocked out by the marines only to figure out they were the evilones the whole time and the froze you again. and you wake up to there destruction 500 years in the future from halo 3 making it marathon
@mark…
thats a pretty good idea man.
I think something along those lines would be pretty sweet.
the halo books and games are pretty much the most things i read and played… embarising or not i pretty much play that game a little to much and it will be a big loss for me if the halo universe changes to much or Elites are gone because i like them and i already had a loss the grunt aint on your team
My story of halo 4=
its 2529 john 117 on a unknown planet, john went into the darkest part of the unknown planet and meets up with this person half human half some thing. the guy brings john to a ship they fly of to a elite covenent ship when john got off the elites technology upgraded a lot. some elites are buff and cool armor he went to the leader to know whats going on the leader said”nothing well something new is here the marines are in a nother galaxy now holding them off” with chief and arbitar and his new companian can cheif win will brutes come back the faith is yours
my story for halo 4 i think it is pretty good im surprised with my self =
i agree with mark i think he should wake up in the future and see that earth needs his help again but i think that earth should have a mix of earth a covenant technology and i think that both earth and its colony’s and the covenant are under attack by this other species of another galaxy like how on AVP the humans worked with the predators and this new race is even more advanced than the covenant but the is a spartan project 3 and there a human and covenant Spartans
but it is not just there superior technology that is making them hard to defeat but there they have like spartan like people on here sides like master chief but more advanced and more strong and faster and that but like after u kill them get to were u can like take parts of there tech and equip it to ur amour and make urs advanced as well but like regular humans and elites can do it as well and u can like get some chances to fly there tech and like u can infiltrate there bases and ship instead of them just infiltrating urs like the covenant just did u go to there home world and like blow it up or something lke that and u can like have tech to like make u look and talk like them and u like go under cover and take it out from the inside instead go in guns blazing that would make a sweet game
since halo 3 is done, and marathon is the continueation, y not have a remake of marathon then continue the halo series after that??
I think in halo 4.When master chief lands on the mysterious planet. He lands on a forerunner instalation and meets other surviving spartans. Also the remaning convenant run to the planet to rebuild there army. While in missions you switch from master chief to the arbiter.master chief fights the covenant.Arbiter has to stop graveming from rebuilding himself on earth!Than brutes plan to go back to the ark and fire whats left of the instalation 05 at earth to destroy the flood and humans! This will make one sweet game!
you know, if they do give us halo 4, I have an idea that supports the basis of halo, in other words, involving a halo:
you could come out on a planet that looks nice, but is actually controlled by the covenant. You fight your way off the planet and get back to earth in a stolen ship…
SIX MONTHS LATER…
an under water exploration team that works for the military discovers a large metal object deep in the ground. They go inside to explore and map it out. They discover it’s so large it actually goes as far as the earth’s core, serving as an energy source. According to scientists, this thing is roughly 100 000 years old. You go in as master chief and find some sort of control room. After activating the place, almost the whole world shakes as multi kilometer pieces of metal float off to space and join together. Before you know what’s going on, you find yourself looking at another Halo…
You get on the halo and you discover that this halo has a special purpose. Drawing energy from the arc and sending it through a chain of other halos, it utilizes enough power to obliterate an entire planet. This was meant to fight the flood without moving to desperate measures. But the forerunner were not the only ones that see it as a weapon…
what happens next? Bungie, if you take my idea, it’s all up to you. Thats my opinion of how halo 4 should start out.
WTF WHY ARE YOU MAKING YOUR OWN STORYS MAKE YOUR OWN POLL FOR THAT lol
HALO IS DA BEST GAME EVER MADE PIECE OUT BRUDDAS
i think that john should be frozen and reawakened by covenant in 2559 and is forced to fight for his life in the arena with only a sword and in the time he is there is reunited with his friend sam who had his mjolonir armor taken from him to be studied and together they would lead all of the rebels who are there including some unsc forces into an all out battle against the covenant coloseum planet and steal a warship towards end and jump into slipspace into a huge unsc vs covenant space battle over earth only the earth is winning momentarily and john and sam have to work together with 3 new generation of spartans with more improved armor take the battle to one of the largest covenant factories full of deadly forces and take the fight there and discover where the covenant homeworld is and the location to another halo planet.
