When the first Fallout 3 details were revealed, it was included that the post-apocalyptic action-RPG would have 12 endings. Developer Bethesda boss Todd Howard has now confirmed in the latest OXM podcast (37 minutes in) that Fallout 3 will have over 200 possible endings!
To quote him: “Being that we are Bethesda, everything gets a bit big. So as of last week, we’re over 200 endings. That is not an exaggeration, but it deserves some descriptions.” Meaning that like in other Fallout games, the choices you make affect aspects of the endings, resulting in a combination of sub-endings.
Mr. Howard also confirmed that Fallout 3 is twice the size than anticipated and close to the size of Oblivion, saying: “The game is easily 100 hours” Fallout 3 will be released on PC, Xbox 360 & PS3 in fall 2008. — Via Joystiq
Hmmm…I might get this for my PC.Whats it rated? It looks dangerous too!
I dont like violence.
Wow~ 300 endings? thats something really Craaaazy!
I think one will have to create baizllion save files so that at every decision one can take the “other” path and play it again. rather than having to play the whole game that is.
Davy: It’s not yet rated and I imagine there’ll be combat in the game, since it’s about survival.
Reeteshinator: It’s actually 200 endings, but yeah it seems to be small variations on one-another.
Only in gaming can something negative be promoted as something positive! Oblivion was smaller than Morrowind, Morrowind was smaller than Daggerfall, and now Fallout 3 will be smaller than Oblivion! At this rate, Fallout 6 and Elder Scrolls 6 will be based in two pr three locations, like Friends or Frasier on TV!
Oh, and those 200 endings. First I don’t believe it, secondly he’s probably the different weapons and armors you may be carrying at game end!
As for open world, sections are connected by subway tunnels. Isn’t that levels? Open World surely means entering an area from any number of directions, not through a tunnel?
Despite all this, this game will get scores in the 90’s; these big games from big companies always do. It will be November before sensible reviews will appear, both media and user.
@ John
I’m sorry but you’ve seem to completely miss the point on…well every single topic…you didn’t get a single thing correct :-s.
“Only in gaming can something negative be promoted as something positive! Oblivion was smaller than Morrowind, Morrowind was smaller than Daggerfall, and now Fallout 3 will be smaller than Oblivion!”
How is this negative? This is extremely positive. I am a programmer, this is known as “tursed” code. Ie,. efficient. Code and coding standards improve, new algorithms and engines are used, eventually new compressions are adopted. The game isn’t getting smaller in the amount you can play, it’s getting smaller size wise…look at a 20 Gb hard-drive for your computer, now look at a 80GB SSD drive…the SSD drive is smaller, faster, more effecient,.
This is technology, size MATTERS! The SMALLER the better!
“Oh, and those 200 endings. First I don’t believe it, secondly he’s probably the different weapons and armors you may be carrying at game end!”
Yes…Bethseda decided to lie to the public openly in order to make people made at them? WHAT IS YOUR LOGIC HERE?! There are 200 endings, if you don’t believe it, then that’s tough, fact is, it doesn’t matter what you believe because BETHSEDA knows better then you how many endings their games has. Also, it was EXPLAINED in the article! Please read it next time before posting! PLEASE! They are “sub-endings” remember how every fallout game ends with scrolling pictures and a narrative? Well Fallout 2 had like 20 endings, the pictures/narrative changed based on what quests you complete and how you handled them. As there are over 50 main locations, most with quests, and about another 50 sub-locations, also locations not listed on the map, you can change your karma based on actions taken at all of these locations. Even random encounters. There ARE 200+ endings. It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.
“As for open world, sections are connected by subway tunnels. Isn’t that levels? Open World surely means entering an area from any number of directions, not through a tunnel?”
This is like saying you take a subway in real-life, this means that you live your entire life in the subway system. This game emulates D.C….D.C. has a subway system…you can go into the subway system…you can get 99.99% of places without using the subway system. Why do they use the subways then? To give you a nudge in the right direction, if you need it, otherwise you can just walk through the Mutant infested ruins of downtown.
“Despite all this, this game will get scores in the 90’s; these big games from big companies always do. It will be November before sensible reviews will appear, both media and user.”
Big games/companies don’t always get big scores…there are a lot of BIG games from BIG companies that were BIG flops and were immediately pegged as so, recent example “too human”, “final fantasy 12″, etc,. etc,. The reason big companies get big scores on their big games is because they have a big staff with a big budget to make a big effort in making those games. Goto Gamespot. 3000 people have already voted and it got a 9.2, so what? Are these people drunk on the name “Bethseda”…no…they liked the game…their opinion is just as valid as someones this month…It’s like saying a movie came out “Dark Knight” it got great reviews, everyone loved it, one of the top grossing movies of all time…then next week comes around and everyone is like, OMG, what a terrible movie! 1 WEEK OLD!!!
Please, please, please READ A POST BEFORE YOU COMMENT. Please please please, DO NOT STATE “FACTS” about a game that you haven’t played yet/isn’t out if they are based on your personal opinions.
You sir, are an idiot. *Flame away, I won’t be returning to this thread, I just wanted future readers to understand that John grossly mis-represented this game.
Also, I should note, I HATE oblivion, never liked Bethseda, yet Fallout 3 is amazing. Sorry for mis-judging you Bethseda, John, your still an idiot.
Chris, you could not be more correct… I couldn’t have said it better myself.
And yes, the game is friggin awesome… and yes, I hated Oblivion too.
