Ubisoft has announced that they have reached a deal with Tom Clancy to bring a Tom Clancy MMO game to next-gen consoles, presumably the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
Ubisoft recently announced that they have reached a deal with Mr. Tom Clancy to acquire all intellectual property rights to the Tom Clancy name. They have acquired the rights on a perpetual basis and are free of all related future royalty payments. This will save Ubisoft around €5 million each year that they now won’t have to pay for the rights to the Tom Clancy name on games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.
One of the first steps Ubisoft will take is to make an MMO game based on a Tom Clancy franchise. Ubisoft confirmed this during a conference call with analysts. Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot also noted that: “[The company] now has complete editorial control over the Clancy universe, which allows for cross-fertilisation of characters between games, like Super Smash Bros., and could lead to the games publisher becoming a major player in film, television and book publishing.” — Quotes via Ubisoft PR & EG
